Default Analytics win again, Phil Jackson please retire

4 teams that are left are 4 teams that shot the most amount of 3s in the postseason. 3 out 4 top 4 in the regular season

Meh, just a coincidence/anomaly. Just last year, all the teams that were in the conference finals were in the 15-25 range in terms of league wide 3 point attempts. The year before that, the Grizzlies made the WCF and they were dead last in terms of attempts. 3PT attempts league wide has remained virtually the same.

You'd have to wait a few seasons before calling it a trend because as of now, it's not the norm.

He said this when Curry the MVP lost to the Grizzlies, and the Hawks were struggling. He was clearly taken a shot at teams reliance on 3 pointers and was wrong.

The 3 point shot has taken over basketball. It's just foolish to deny it at this point. Obviously you still need stars and competent ways to create them.

You NEED good spacing and 3 point shooting to win the title in today's league. Period.

Wow, teams that shoot better percentages tend to do well? Wow... news to me.

But we were addressing # of attempts, not %s.

Recent Champions (Runner Ups, Confernce Finals Teams)
    2014 Spurs: 16th (Heat 15th, Pacers 25th, Thunder 14th)
    2013 Heat: 6th (Spurs 7th, Grizzlies 30th, Pacers 15th)
    2012 Heat: 23rd (Thunder 12th, Spurs 7th, Celtics 24th)
    2011 Mavs: 5th (Heat 15th, Bulls 17th, Thunder 19th)

All middle of the pack to last place in the league. This will be the first season in a long time, maybe ever (haven't checked) that top 4 3-point attempt teams will battle it out in the conference finals. Like I said, it's an anomaly, not part of a trend. You'd have to wait a few seasons and see the same phenomena happen more than once before you can label it as that.

And of course Phil's Lakers won in 2010 (3 finals in a row, b2b championships) running the triangle without an over reliance on the 3. It's all about talent (or in the case of the East... lack of talent) like someone above pointed out.

Defense stills wins championships. That is what makes the Warriors so great. good spacing,3 point shooting, and the best defense.

    It's a combination of attempts and %.

The 3 point phemonmen didnt take real effect until the Mavericks obliterated the competition with it in 2011. The Lakers were still running the triangle, the Mavericks were chucking 3s. Obviously other factors come into play. Pau Gasoft, Kobe, Dirk, Lebron, etc.

But the trend was steady. The Heat and Thunder werent 3 point shooting teams, that is until the Finals when the Thunder got shell shocked by it. I always maintain the real problem with the Thunder is that they never got 3 point snipers/proper spacing to put them over the edge in 2012 and 2014.

2013/2014 Heat and Spurs were 3 point clinics in attempts and percentage.

And this year we've reached the peak "anomoly" were quite literally every good team in the league relies heavily on 3s.

Just watch the all star game.

Maybe the nba will change the trend with new rules, but it's obvious that the trend is very very real.
