Kawhi's a system player, better on defense, worse on offense.

Kobe averaged 21/5/4 with 1.5 spg 1.5 bpg on 52% TS

vs Kawhi averaging 14/7/2 with 1.7 spg 0.6 bpg on 61% TS

Kobe had a PER of 19.3, Kawhi had a PER of 18.7

Kawhi played less minutes for his team to win, Kobe played more. Spurs were more dominant as a team than the Lakers. Both teams did play the same amount of games, but Lakers were closer to being eliminated than the Spurs and were much less dominant in the Finals (goes 7 games if Kobe doesn't win Game 4 in OT). Kobe also played injured in the Finals.

Also worth noting that Kobe was 2 years younger. Kawhi played great for the Spurs in the Finals, while Kobe had his best game in the most crucial game of the Playoffs (Game 7 WCF, 25-11-7 with 4 blocks).

All in all, Spurs still win title if you put 2000 Kobe in Kawhi's place. Kobe back then was at his best defensively and could produce better on the offensive end. Kawhi's great at what he does, but if OP is trying to stir up something about Kawhi being better than Kobe or more important to his team than Kobe in 2000, he's on some bullshit.

fckin lol. kobe was a lot better. but he wouldnt win on this spurs team. everyone knew their own role and they didnt play for individual glory. kobe was like that even at 18.

it worked because he had a great career. but he would have dragged the spurs down.

2000 kobe was 1st team all defense, 2nd team all nba, most popular player in the world, already had many 40+ games already

kawhi is good but not quite on that level

put 2000 kobe on the 2013 spurs and he probably averages 25ppg

kobe jumped from 23ppg to 28ppg from 2000-2001 not because his talent went up 1000%.. but just because they got rid of glen rice and kobe got more opportunities

Acting like you could win a debate about discussing hypotheticals. No one can. It's just my opinion, take it or leave it. Kobe was a better player, hence he could lead the same team to a title that a less greater player could. Would he need to change who he is as a player to fit the system? Sure. Do you think he wouldn't be able to if he wanted to win? Of course he could. He could fit into Phil's system and run the triangle and lead a title team in assists for all of his titles. What makes you think he couldn't learn to play in Pop's system and share the ball more?

Obviously, Pop would have to change his system a bit as well, since Kobe is a higher usage player and would most definitely not be cool with playing Kawhi's role (taking 10 shots a game on average). Parker would have to take a backseat, which could actually benefit the Spurs more, since Parker can make a lot of boneheaded plays when the team needs a bucket badly.

Kobe taking touches away from TOSB Manu and hero-ball Parker would actually be a good thing IMO. And the shooters that the Spurs have, Kobe could abuse the opposing teams by forcing the defenders to stay home on the shooters, Kobe could pass as well as any Shooting Guard, so you know he would find the open 3pt shooters if needed be. I think Pop is much better managing talent and making a player fit his system than Phil. Pop does not take bs from nobody and he puts you in the dog house if you try to challenge him. It worked on Parker. He molded Parker into one of the most solid point guards of his era, despite Parker being a trigger-happy guard himself.

I dunno, how would Kobe have fared against Durant and LeBron? I know its a team effort but still, somebody has to guard them.

Frobe by far. Kawhi's got the defensive edge, but offensively it's Frobe and it's not too close. He had an underwhelming finals in which he got hurt but he was putting up 23/4/5/2/2 on 55% TS in the first 3 rounds, and 23/6/5/2/1 on 55% TS in the regular season.

2000 Kobe without question. Just because Kawhi shat on a shitty defender like LeBald, doesn't mean his run should be compared to the likes of the GOAT.

WOW, he literally said it. Forget about the most dominant big man in the game, shoot the damn ball!

Shaq had 18/9 in the most crucial game of the Playoffs. Kobe led the team in points, rebounds, assists AND blocks

if you pick Kawhi, you are either:

    1) A blind Spurs Homer
    2) an extreme Kobe hater
