Default Ricky Rubio Supposedly Expecting A Max Contract Extension

    Darren Wolfson ‏@DarrenWolfson

(1/2) Rubio confidant on 5-yr/no 5-yr ext. idea: "Value still high around league & a lot of teams would def. be interested in his services."

(2/2) Me talking now: Reading the tea leaves, Rubio people expect the 5-yr max extension offer next offseason. Will be interesting. #twolves

If he managed to get the Knicks and Lakers into a bidding war he might get close to it.

If Melo walks and Rubio hit the free market I could see him being the type the Knicks want to put on billboards.

    Summer after next:

    Lin, Rubio, and Dragic

Love, Marc Gasol, Aldridge, Brook Lopez, Kawhi Leonard. Faried, Jimmy Butler, and Roy Hibbert

All either free or able to choose to opt out.

All 3 of those points will get paid by some team hoping to pair them with one of the bigmen. Knicks have only 12-13 million spoken for after next season if Melo bolts. They could work themselves into position to destroy themselves with huge contracts again.

They have always been down to do that. If they had to give Rubio 12, LA, 15, and Faried 10 a season to get the Knicks back in the news I bet they would do it. The Lakers might as well if they were in position to try.

People don't understand his influence on the game.

He is a very good defender and he is one of the few PG's in the league that actually runs an offense. I have never seen someone pass the ball to the post so often as no assist will be coming.

I don't want to sign him to a max but if it has to be done it has to be done.

there's only 2 players in the NBA that deserve a max contract. all others deserve a slap in the face if they ask for a max.

There's no denying that Rubio is a talented pure PG, but the dude has practically 0 shooting ability, he seems to play defense in random spurts instead of consistently, and he hasn't shown any improvement in anything since entering the NBA.
You'd think he'd have a decent jumper by now, but nope. The guy has shot an embarrassingly low FG% since day one.

Max contract is laughable. He's a good player to have on a team, but I can't imagine any team would offer him a max deal...

But it is professional sports. Dumber things have happened.

Most important player on the Timbs but he doesn't deserve a max. If he was a good shooter, he'll get some considerations...or at least be a masterful driver and finisher. No more than 10 mil please.

This. With him they are a 500 ball club... and that's with everybody shooting like crap for some reason and nobody that can really play any defense. If Minny starts shooting better they should be closer to a 50 win team. Without Rubio they are 30-35 team. He is an important player... Don't be fooled by the lack of points and percentages.
