How much should you give for a wedding gift?
Would you give a gift or cash? and if cash, how much? this question is more so for people who are working, not broke college kids.

Depends on who's wedding it is.
A close friend?
A relative?
brother or sister?
Coworker?

Depends. Are you close to the person? Are you bringing a guest to the wedding? $100 is a fairly reasonable gift if you are going by yourself. If you are bringing a guest, then $200.

Re: How much should you give for a wedding gift?
I agree with rambo for once, my standard is $100 per head I bring if they have asked for money. I've never been to a wedding that did gifts so I've never had to do that, everyone I've known has requested money. At my sisters wedding one of my brother in weird cousins gave something like $33.50 with some in coins. Don't do that.

$100
believe it or not there are people who go to weddings to steal from the gift table. happened to a friend of mine. usually they'll have someone watching it tho.
so i'd probably give a money order, certified check, or something in his/her name, not cash...but i've given cash before too.
i'm assuming you know about registries too.

i generally give 150-200 per person (ie: if i bring a date i double it) depending how close a friend they are, how nice the venue is, and if it's a destination wedding. also, i always write a check, never give cash.

Do they have a registry? If not get something they will surely use. Even if it is just pots, pans, plates, silverware, appliances, etc.
No price limit.

You also want to consider how much it's going to cost them to have guests at their wedding.
Weddings can be expensive and you don't want to give a cash gift that was less than the cost of your meal that the couple or their family paid.

Don't worry Kev, we appreciate your input, but as usual, it's completely worthless: nobody is going to be serving a hundred dollar meal for each guest, so the benjamin bill is perfectly reasonable as a gift.

true, how much for each? it is wedding season afterall
I've been to a few weddings and have a general idea of how much I'd give, just wondering what the consensus is. Me personally, if it's an acquaintance I'd give $100, realtively close friend $200, close friend/brother is more where the gray area lies

Registered peeps are the easiest to gift for. If no, never give a practical gift... always something fun they can enjoy together.
