I'd give the Heat a lower grade, like a D or D+.

They got rid of their key bench players in Kapono and Posey, did nothing the address the fact that they're getting way too old for up-tempo basketball, and continued to add point-guard sized players that arent point guards in Smush Parker and Dequan Cook.

Could it be possible that Wade leaves the Heat because Miami's going absolutely nowhere in the long term?

I was going to give Miami somewhere around there, but decided to be nice on them. Should've kept Smith over Cook, but oh well, it's done now.

The offseason isn't over yet. Miami isn't done. Hardly any team out there is. I just saw a list of free agents out there...still some pretty good talent available for all.

Very true, if they convince P.J. Brown, Webber, Boykins, and Pietrius to play for the veterans minimum and a short contract for Pietrius, their grade would go up bigtime.

PG: Williams/Boykins/Parker
SG: Wade/Pietrius
SF: Walker/Wright
PF: Haslem/Webber/Brown
C: Shaq/Zo

The squad is old as hell, but has such a deep and talented bench, and has the experience to go deep in the playoffs.

I don't think they can get Pietrius. They'll have to do a S&T with the Warriors to get him and I don't see that happening. They won't be getting Boykins either, they signed Parker and that other guy (can't remember his name) so they'll probably be set at PG. Webber will probably go to Dallas before he goes to Miami.

i'd give magic a nice F for paying rashard lewis average of $21 million over 6 years. that's kind of a contract that cripples a franchise.

Magic deserve far worse.

They vastly overpaid for Shard who is a downgrade on Hill at SF. So basically they are paying 20m per for a worse player.

They lost their best depth in the frontcourt and replaced him with Foyle who is solid at best.

They genuinely added nothing to improve the team and substantially increased the salary in the process. They wont be FA players for 6 years now and they aren't going to be contenders unless Dwight wins the MIP award because right now they aren't even close. Dwight would have to improve to being better than Shaq at the same age to have a chance and Dwight isnt half the player Shaq was at the same age right now.

Why the hell would everyone go and sign for nothing in miami?

miami is on a serious decline... and i JUST read that they aren't trying overly hard to resign dorrell wright, which is confusing considering the lack of depth they have.

I don't think the Hawks deserve an A. They basically drafted someone who plays the exact same position as their lottery pick from last year. Also, they have been extremely quiet in free agency and as it stands, they are in for another horrible year. Joe Johnson as your second scorer is fine, but not if you are counting on him to carry your team.

The two that stand out are the Heat and the Magic. The Heat haven't done anything other than sign Smush, but lose two good role-players in Kapono and Posey.

The Magic paid max money over 6 years to a guy who was a second option on a bad team. They also lost a promising young center as a result of this horrible contract with 'Shard.

Heat: D
Magic: F-

How do the Hawks get an A when they only got Horford and Law in the draft? The Bobcats have probably done the most this offseason in that division by trading for JRich, and resigning Wallace and Carroll.

Because both Horford and Law filled the Hawks biggest need..a low post scorer and a young pg who can take over games and hit outside shots.

The Hawks have one of the deepest young teams in the league

Speedy/Law/Lue/Anthony Johnson
Joe Johnson/Salim Stoudamire
Marvin Williams/Josh Childress
Josh Smith/Shelden Williams
Zaza Pachulia/Al Horford/Solomon Jones
