Guys have never been as tall as the public was led to believe....which is why when you see some of them next to the legit giants like Shaq he seemed out of place. And then you see Shaq next to Yao and its striking too.
Most NBA bigs are the same 6'8'' guys from the 60s with some added weight training.
Garnett and Dirk were both 7 feet but downplayed it because they were too skinny to bang with real 7 footers so it goes both ways.

durant is real thin so his height was downplayed so hed appear more suitable for his style & position.

Durant measured 6'9 w/o shoes at the combine.

Lebron measured 6'7.25 w/o shoes at the combine. He was straight out of high school so he certainly could have grown an inch.
