Only they have more depth at that position now.

which gives Rick the possibility to explore against opponent line ups
because Jameer might have an edge against the opposing second unit over Calderon.

if our guards are healthy, we won't miss calderon at all. in fact, i'd argue we've improved that position now. last year calderon played 31 minutes a game with Harris playing 20...in the regular season.

this year i see it as harris probably playing 25 minutes a game...with nelson playing around 25...and felton playing around 15.

calderon was horrific defensively...and nelson is definitely a better defender. even felton is a better defensive player and I'd imagine we'll see felton have a really high "give-a-shit" level this year.

where we will be hurt is at sg...vince played 25 minutes a night last year and he was great on both ends for us.

But Calderon's 11/2/5 in 31 minutes a game with horrid defense? Nah...we aren't gonna miss that much at all now that we have Nelson. I also think Gal Mekel might be able to give us so minutes as well if need be. He'll definitely be improved over last year.

And I like Calderon as a player a lot...you just can't play him next to a guy like ellis at sg. He needs to play next to avery bradly or tony allen...or shumpert. Calderon/Shumpert is going to be great.

What's the Mavs plan? Are they trying to win now? They have a deep team, but they don't have anyone capable of leading them to the title on it. It looks like they're setting themselves up for first and second round exits over the next few years.

It's to hopefully get hot in the playoffs and make a run...which I don't think is impossible like you do.

Also, we will have room to get better next summer when Chandler and Wright come off the books for over 20 million. Plus Felton can be salary dumped to open up more space as well.

This is, in my opinion, definitely a team good enough to make a run in the playoffs.

We just saw the Spurs win a title without a player as good as Dirk was overall last year. Not saying that the Mavs are as good, but definitely fit in that mold of solid vet players all over and a great coach.

It's definitely possible, but yea...most likely the Mavs won't win a title over the next 3 years. But at least we are trying and going all in. Sometimes this stuff doesn't work out...and for once, I can't fault the strategy of Nellie and Cuban post 2011. They've made some mistakes like Odom, Kaman, Collison, West, Calderon, and Mayo, but the strategy was sound...the pieces just didn't work out.

From 01 through 10...the strategy was flawed....and we kind of lucked into 2011. Kind of sick that as Dirk declines...we finally start building proper teams around him. But truly better late than never. Hopefully we get 1 or 2 runs in the coming years. My hope is that we build a team good enough in 3 years that Dirk will stick around 2 more years to play off the bench or just 20 to 25 minutes a game. Definitely possible if Parsons turns into a star.
