The only problem is that Houston is very hot and humid in the summer. They might do better to go somewhere a little bit cooler.

I don't see how any Texas city would be worse.
I've just been reading about it, and apparently Houston had a spectacular bid for the 2012 Olympics. If it was just based on material things like the facilities, the planning, etc, then Houston was far better than any other city in their ability and plan to host the Olympics.
They lost out though because ... it's Houston. It doesn't have the appeal of Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, etc, and that took them out of the running.

Ya most def!!! I was telling my friend one day during the London Olympics that I have to go to the Olympics one year & it'd be awesome if it was in the US! I think it'll be in either NY or LA I mean I'd LOVE it if it was in Houston but I doubt it. But if its in NY or LA i'm most definitely going!

where did you read this?
I have a hard time believing Houston was better prepared to host the Olympics than London.
The ease of travel due to all of their public transportation alone was probably a huge factor in their selection.
I see that as a big negative for cities like Dallas and Houston where our stuff is so spread out and difficult to get to if you don't own a car.
Also, its not like Atlanta is really a destination city.

You guys are all being naive. City appeal? Public transportation? These things are minor factors.
Salt Lake City hosted an Olympics for crying out loud. This shit is about money and compliance. IOC goes with the city that is most willing to meet their demands, and the city who is best at "courting" the voting officials.
