Big Time Pelican fan, also fan of the Cavaliers as well checking in.

I can't really trust ESPN for non-biased basketball opinions anymore ever since the Golden State Screwjob. Where they snubbed Curry on the FMVP after he put up 26/6/5, which is regarded as the worst FMVP selection of all time.

    Good article.
These are the guys I currently rank above Kobe (no order).

    Jordan
    Kareem
    Shaquille

    Magic
    Russell
    Duncan
    Hakeem

    Wilt
    Bird
    Lebron

I also consider Jerry West who I think is underrated but era differences make it harder.
He is Top 15 but people who say he cannot be outside the Top 10 are wrong.
There are 10+ guys with a good case against him though I would not be offended by those who might have him just barely inside.

Is there any reason you rank Hakeem so highly?

    Yeah.
His longevity is quite elite (elite from 85-97) (13 years)
    *
He 2peated as the man in a very impressive fashion.
    *
His scoring stats over his full Prime are better then Kobe's.
    *
He was one of the best defenders ever.

The only real knock against him is that he didn't win more in his early years but for the moment I tend to believe that is more because he got stuck in a pretty shitty team situation where he had weak casts, drug addicted teammates and bad coaching etc...

My opinions on Hakeem are far from fully formed so its possible that I could drop him in the future but for now that is how I see him.

In his 2nd year when he had a healthy Sampson he led his team past the Peak Magic led Laker's and even managed to take 2 games off of the legendary 86 Celtic's.

So that helps support my view that a young Hakeem could have won had he been in a better situation.

Certainly a young Hakeem could have easily won a few titles with a player like 91-93 MJ who is the best guard equivelant for 00-02 Shaq who a young Kobe for example 3peated with.

I've got Montana as GOAT (it is extremely close though), but if Brady wins MVP & the Super Bowl this year he surpasses Montana as GOAT

maybe cause in 4 years in a row he lead the league in scoring and jordan knew when he was a rookie to show him a little respect. other than that he is nothing give me magic johnson who NEVER faded kinda disapeared on top of the game.
