PER is the ULTIMATE statistic for measuring the best!
Hands down. The best metric out there! So I've been told by my insiders who work at ESPN.
So now we know that PER or Player efficiency rating, is the elite stat for measuring elite NBA players. I decided to have a look at the all-time standings for CAREER PER!
1. Michael Jordan* 27.91
2. LeBron James 27.79
3. Shaquille O'Neal 26.43
4. David Robinson* 26.18
5. Wilt Chamberlain* 26.13
6. Chris Paul 25.59
7. Bob Pettit* 25.35
8. Dwyane Wade 25.29
9. Neil Johnston* 24.69
10. Charles Barkley* 24.63
11. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar* 24.58
12. Tim Duncan 24.56
13. Kevin Durant 24.53
14. Magic Johnson* 24.11
15. Karl Malone* 23.90
16. Hakeem Olajuwon* 23.59
17. Julius Erving* 23.58
18. Larry Bird* 23.50
19. Dirk Nowitzki 23.48
20. Kobe Bryant 23.36
Wow. It appears Michael and Lebron are in a league of their own! This also illustrates the definite gap between current players. Lebron is years ahead of KD. Don't get me started on Kobe.

Re: PER is the ULTIMATE statistic for measuring the best!
Rapm is a better stat. PER is like passer rating...better than the raw stats but pretty meh overall..what i do like about it though is that it auto adjusts for the pace

Dont Care.
Re: PER is the ULTIMATE statistic for measuring the best!

Re: PER is the ULTIMATE statistic for measuring the best!
per is a made up algorithm that gives credit for each individual stat. How could you possibly know how much credit to give each stat relative to its actual impact on the game?
per is garbage.

Hard to discredit it too much when you look at that list of players but its like measuring players by accolades yea its flawed, its kind of an allround stat, context is needed

I know this is a troll post, but how can anyone come up with a new statistic whose sole purpose is to use a number to show how good a player is... and then actually go to print with a stat that doesn't list Bill Russell in the top 20? But oh, it does list Neil Johnston.

Re: PER is the ULTIMATE statistic for measuring the best!
Didn't they not use to count certain stars decades ago which would explain why legends from those old days don't have high per like russel

Pretty much. PER doesn't exist before 77-78. B-R just zeroes out the missing stats in the formula. For the life of me, unless someone has an agenda, I can't tell why he'd post these numbers.
