I do not believe he was trying to show off. Instead, I feel the fact that Dell Curry, a former pitcher and 14th round draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles, rocketed the ball off the glass with such force that it more or less left Vince with little choice but to reel it in however he could. I think the extension was necessary to gather the ball without ricochet.
That said, respect to Wardell for such an impressive pass.

I faintly remember something about Tony Parker grabbing a rebound and while at the peak of his jump, Ben Wallace grabs and takes the ball from behind Parker and attempted to dunk it.

I like that one too. Sometimes I wonder if the misses resonate more with us than if the dunks had actually gone down. The miss allows us to use our imagination to decide how incredible it actually would have been, and the possibilities are endless. It almost reminds me of how sometimes actors or musicians are given a historic boost when they pass before or during their prime.
