True. Trading for Rudy Gay was a really odd move though.
If I was a Raptors fan I'd be happy to be where they're at right now. I'd be happy just to make it to the second round given how bad the team has been for so long, but when you're sticking with Derozan, Lowry, and Jonas in the future as your main guys, you are a team that has accepted you will win no championships because you know you are not winning with that. In other words, the Raptors are not trying to win a championship and they have no plans of attempting to put together a contending team anytime in the near future.

Nah, that doesn't mean they weren't trying to win. They just suck at drafting around their star players. They also couldn't keep their star players (Vince and Bosh) and couldn't keep other budding stars around (Damon, Camby, McGrady).
However, their recent drafting like Kaiteng suggested, shows that they've improved dramatically in drafting from the past GM's, while getting key players from trade and free agency (the bench we have now; Kyle is our best overall player; Amir is the anchor of our defense and a capable scorer). The starting core is just about 24 years of age altogether, so I can see the future is bright.
I agree that ownership might not have the same interest in the management. Their goal is to make money first.

Anyone else?
i get why the nuggets could be mentioned in this thread. but they fired George Karl for the single reason to build a team more suited for the playoffs and get past the 1st round

Terrence Ross is also bright young player. 3 point specialist and very good on defense.
I would say they are a good low-post player away from seriously contending if they retain Lowry and keep adding to their bench.

OP is a ****ing moron. Tanking, and not being desirable a destination for free agents does not mean the franchise doesn't care about winning titles.

Bulls.hit. The Bucks have been content than any other franchise in recent memory for fighting for the 8th seed. This is the first time they are actually building the right way

Re: Franchises That Don't Care About Winning Titles
Oh, Raptors probably need a better coach too. I don't trust Casey and his adjustments. He's also putting players in positions to fail by drawing up predictable plays that certain players aren't good at.
Lionel Hollins and Stan Van Gundy are still available after the season, but I think Casey gets retained.

Knicks all da way
Re: Franchises That Don't Care About Winning Titles
Knicks - Dolan only cares about fans in the seats. Unfortunately MSG is still a hip place to be, so you won't find too many empty seats even when they suck. I wish there were 10K empty seats there, hit this fcker where it hurts.

But to make money better you have to win championships.
Let's look at Toronto Maple Leafs. They have won multiple championships in a distant past and now the Leafs have become the money tree that every games are sell-out no matter how expensive ticket prices are or how mediocre the team has been just because of the market they have been building since the championship years. The same thing can be applied to make other historical teams.

I don't know if the Raptors ownership cares about winning titles or not, but they have had some s.hitty coaches and general managers.

I just don't see it. Even if they get another good low-post player, look at the competition you'd be up against. Multiple teams that have two players (or even three) better than the Raptors best player. The top two teams right now have three all stars each, and Indiana almost has three all stars too. That's just too much to overcome in a city no free agent wants to go to unless you get extremely lucky/ draft extremely well like OKC has.
