LOL at anyone who thinks The Weeknd is the next Michael Jackson
I was watching the VMAs, and just decided to go on Twitter. I check my timeline and I see a bunch of people saying "Weeknd is this generation's MJ" or "Weeknd is the next MJ". I'm a fan of The Weeknd, but as an artist he's nothing compared to MJ. Only thing that comes close is the voice, that's it.
Last time I checked, The Weeknd can't dance. Also, I don't think he'll ever sell more than 1 billion records, like MJ did.

There is nothing wrong with him becoming the next Michael Jackson. The voice is there and can be improved upon but the dancing isnt obviously. I dont know if he has that in him.

You don't become the "next michael jackson" by copying his style. MJ was an innovator alongside Quincy Jones. Quincy is helping superior talent develop right now like that British kid Jacob Collier. You have to have the same level of innovation as MJ to be the next MJ

That would make him his own person as opposed to the next Michael Jackson. In which we would be calling his successors the next Weeknders.

The comparison doesn't even make sense.
They literally sound nothing alike.

Can't feel my face is an obvious tribute in terms of style and sound.
Aside from the content he sings about in the song, this is the type of music MJ should have been making in terms of catchiness/pop-wise in his last 10 years around. It is literally a perfect pop song much like MJ used to make way back in the day.
He has his own sound, and is quite innovative. Very easily recognisable and has a distinct sound. He really blew up after that 50 shades song he did.

Agreed. He can be even better
Weeknd can do pop like MJ but also pull off that dark rnb sound along with some rap
Much more versatile

Michael Jackson is the greatest performer and entertainer the word has ever seen and nobody will ever surpass him
However, the Weeknd is more versatile like another poster said. You also don't become the next MJ by copying him. The Weeknd is original and will be HUUUUUUGE in 5 years. I think he will be the biggest superstar of this generation. He will have his own tier, just like MJ did.

A bubblegum wanna be MJ
The Weeknd is so unique. That's what you need to be the next MJ. When I say next MJ I'm not talking about ripping MJ off, I'm talking about having something unique like him to become the biggest start in the world. Obviously his voice fits that description. He also has the hair going for him, good for the brand. When it comes to music he is so unique and it will make him massive. He can make amazing drugged out sex alternative R&B, trap flow music, rap, chart topping pop, ballads, melodies, everything. I'm sure he will keep continuing to evolve his sound as well. I can't imagine how diverse his discography will be in 10 years
