Simply amazing how good shooters are today...
The older eras could take some pointers. Open lanes are created today via shooting ability, not rulebooks
Simply an amazing time for basketball. The game has never been this pure.

Alonzo has no choice but to follow Dennis to above the FT line, as per stated in the Illegal Defense Rule schemes or he will enact an illegal defense violation, resulting in a reset of the 24 clock and subsequential FTs in done again

Don't start this again. You were chased out of your other thread trying this. There's more defensive 3 second violations called now then there were illegal d calls then, by far. And teams were playing out right, real zone back then.

it was a loose rule.. basically you had to be within an arms length of a offensive player, if you got caught floating between two guys it should be called illegal D but it wasn't called anywhere near as much as it could have been..

What I've been trying to get through to this idiot. I keep providing him with the proof in the other thread he started, but it doesn't seem to be getting through. Guess I'll just have to keep trying
And the league got rid of the rule because they realized how futile they had been in enforcing it and curtailing zone. So they added the caveat of the 3-sec lane rule and eliminated handchecking to increase scoring (especially on the perimeter, this was key to them desperately trying to manufacture the 'next Jordan') and improve the pace.

Re: Simply amazing how good shooters are today...
ACTUALLY the first hand-checking rule changes came in 1979-1980
Then it was addressed again in 1994-1995, as well as the three point line being shortened. This was all done to aid Jordan to further success
