The only man who could hold MJ under 20 points...

    Dean Smith.

btw, jordan averaged 28 ppg as a rookie in the NBA and i think he would have averaged something close to that two years prior as a sophomore in college, considering his stats and production actually went down his junior year - even jordan said the reason he left early instead of graduating was because he had stopped progressing.
IMO, Smith was vastly over-rated. He won TWO titles in his long career at North Carolina, and lost NCAA games with far superior rosters way too many times. Even MJ and Perkins could only win ONE, and that was mainly because they had Worthy on that team.

a looooooooot of coaches have copied dean smith's offensive sets and systems... a lot... his methodologies will be around 100 years from now

but my point was really that the college game and smith's systems in particular, turn everyone into an off-ball player - team ball and equitable distribution of scoring on offense couldn't have been more emphasized... which is part of the reason jordan is the goat off-ball player.

jordan often credits smith and north carolina for giving him the "fundamentals."
