Biggest problem was this: they had him on his rookie contract for another year. They could have at least given it another shot, and either traded him mid season, or sign-and-traded him at the end of it. They had absolutely no reason to jump the gun. The salary issue wouldn't even come into play yet.

Both teams still in a better position than the magic. Lakers are in a better position as well seeing as how oladipo is looking good for us
