NBA 00s Tournament of 64

Now that the season is over...lets do something fun!


I am conducting a March Madness Like Tournament of which team is the best in the 2000s! The entries? 64 of the best teams in the decade. They were selected and seeded through the following criteria:

1. Champions were given the highest seeds

2. After that, regulars season and playoff records were used to rank the rest.

3. The same franchises being put in the same regional bracket was was avoided to a certain degree.

4. No franchise was allowed to have 2 teams within 2 years. Thus, no consecutive year teams were allowed.

So now we know which teams are included in this tournament, how will this work? Here are some ideas I have:

- Simulate games through whatifsports.com. I have found this site to be reasonable realistic and who knows what will happen in real-life anyways so lets just use the results from this website. The advantages are you can also see box scores and play-by-plays, etc. Also safe-guards can be made in place to ensure I don't rig this thing lol.

- I don't want to use the NCAA Tournament-Like 1 Game and you are out. Because all these NBA teams are great and anybody can beat anybody in 1 game. But I don't want to see Best out of 7 throughout because then there will be no upsets. So I propose this:

Round 1 (Best out of 3)

Round 2( Best out of 5)
Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4, Championship Game (Best out of 7)

- Thoughts on this whole process
- The simulation of these games. Any ideas you have on how the winners should be picked.
- The selection & seedings of the teams. Which deserving teams got left out. Which teams got too high of a seed and which teams got too low of a seed.
- Predictions! Final 4 predictions, Championship predictions, upset predictions, etc.
- Anything
- March Madness like questions "Which of the 1 seeds will go down 1st" :

If you are going to use WIS simulations, I suggest that;
Round 1; best of 15
Round 2; best of 17
Sweet 16; best of 19
Elite 8; best of 21
Final 4; best of 23
Finals; best of 25

I know, #s are huge. But WIS sims are not stable. You can defeat 1996 Bulls with 1986 Celtics with 4-1. And 2 minutes later '96 Bulls can sweep '86 Celtics. To eliminate things like that numbers should be greater than 7.

I agree with something along these lines if you aren't posting box scores/stats/etc (because that would be an absurd amount of work for this). The simming only take a couple seconds anyway. If you are then your way makes sense.

South region is garbage. East is weak too. North and West are substantially better.

One of those early 00 Lakers team will win.

1) But what makes you think series in real-life would be stable? Spurs swept the Grizzlies 4-0 in WCF but it could've easily gone 4-1 or 4-2 in the favor of the Grizzlies. I mean its hard to imagine since it didn't happen, but just look at the result of some season games game to game or individual games. Or see things like Clippers defeating Grizzlies the year before and then the next year Grizzlies defeat Clippers 4-2.

Im just saying real-life I don't think is anymore stable than WIF.

2) So it might not be completely stable. But this is an NCAA Tournament style tournament.
Upsets happen! All the time lol. In fact, thats why some of the earlier rounds are best out of 3 and best out of 5. So if upsets were to happen, that's cool.
