You know, it's this prisoner-of-the-moment, what-have-you-done-for-me-lately attitude that is so prevalent on ISH. Really society at large also.

Is Kobe playing bad right now? Most definitely. Is he playing a low-IQ high shot volume game to the detriment of his young team? Yes, most of the time, but the season is young. Is he capable of learning his limitations and really turning into a facilitator/mentor with less focus on gunning in his last season? Only time will tell.

All of these are valid criticisms, but cannot be used to "retcon" Kobe's undeniable greatness as a player, winner, and all time great. You can pick at his titles, claim that others like Shaq had a larger role, but no one can deny that Kobe was an integral part of the Laker's success during the 3 peat, was the undisputed leader and driving point of their titles in 2009-10, and has generally been one of the most dominant and skilled players of all time. This is a guy who is borderline top 10 GOAT.

Is he a jerk at times, selfish and self absorbed, and lacking some level of basketball IQ? At some level, probably yes to all of these questions. Now that his body has failed him, these weaknesses become more glaring. But that DOESN'T mean that all of a sudden we get the right to rewrite history and claim he wasn't as good as we thought he was and is drastically overrated. He's an all time great now, and he will be an all time great by the time we are dead and gone. Get used to it.

I've never bought into the Kobe hype, nor did I think he was every critical in any part of Laker's history. The guy is a ****ing ball hog, low IQ in-game, and egotistical.

His most profound moments, 80+ points etc, were all in games that didn't mean squat. Shaq won the titles for us, Pau Gasol + Odom took us to the finals three times.

Never in his career, has Kobe proved to us he could carry a team by himself. He will forever be shadowed in the embarrassing loss to Phoenix Suns back in 2006.
