Best leadership type?
Obviously you have guys like Michael who's gonna break you down and shit on you every single day until you're up to his standards.
^ Same probably applies to Kobe to lesser degree.
Then you got vocal leaders like KG, supportive leaders like Duncan, etc.
What's the best type of leader?
Who do you prefer to have as a leader if you were a player?

Magic
Made everyone better, was hyper competitive by holding everyone accountable, but also very likable/social and 'one of the guys' so to speak.

True.
I would kill to be invited to one of Magic's parties back in the days

Re: Best leadership type?
there's no best leadership type. in order for there to be one you have to assume all followers are the same type which is untrue.

Hell yeah.
Read up on the stories AC Green told... They're hilarious too because guy was a devout virgin throughout Showtime's ENTIRE run.

Duncan leads by example and shoulders the blame, which really makes his teammates want to win for him (look at how upset Danny and Mills were for him after the Clippers series). Loads of ex-Spurs have said Duncan's willingness to be coached made them act them same.
The best leaders are the ones who do it naturally. Duncan, Magic, Dirk were all themselves. It's the people who force it (shouting at teammates etc) who usually have mixed results.

It's all fun and games until you find out you've contracted the HIV virus.

Re: Best leadership type?
Durant.
He's the most encouraging leader in sports. His track record speaks for itself... mentored Harden, Jackson, Ibaka, Westbrook.... and even guys who people had/have no hope for... Waiters/Singler. Payne's another guy.
If you pay attention you'll realize he's the perfect mixture of leading by example (works his ass off day in and day out) and vocal leadership where he'll pump up the guys before/during the game. He's not a bully, and he's not overly damanding. He's at just the right temperature.

Derek Fisher: locker room leader, tries hard, perfect team player, always counted on to hit big time clutch shots.

Re: Best leadership type?
Depends on your teammates. Not one way will work with all personalities.
For me, I like the ones who shit on you. Back when I played anything competitive, sometimes I would get lackadaisical and the one consistent thing that would wake me up was getting challenged. Nothing quite like having your ego slapped around to gain motivation imo. I think a lot of this board would agree since some of you seem to have this persistent need to be proven right (or to prove someone wrong). Along the same lines of thinking.

duncan/russell/magic. Theres a reason why statwise, they are the bottom 3 among top 10 ATG, yet career wise, they are top 4.

A leader adjusts his style to suit the persons he's trying to lead. Some people need to be yelled at while others need their hand held.
