Didn't like this. First of all this would take away some of the tanking (thought I think the wheel would be better) and secondly Lakers will lose their pick in the next draft for sure.

It was good that this failed. Knee-jerk reaction if you ask me.
This wouldn't stop tanking. The system is fine. The team with the worst record hasn't won the lottery in quite some time. A team with a 1.7% to win it and fought for the playoffs won the thing, not the 76ers.
Teams that tank face consequences from their respective customer bases.

But it would reduce it.
I guess if the solution doesn't completely stop tanking all at once no reason to try it right?

Good post.
Teams that intentionally tank haven't really been better off and have often been screwed that way..And why punish teams that might have key injuries, who end up being the worst in the league? They should have a better chance at getting a franchise player than a lottery team that's just medicore.

You risk the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. Teams like the bucks, cavs, pelicans, etc. would have an even smaller chance to ever land a Lebron James. It's tough enough as it is on the small markets, why make it even harder? The NBA has some of the worst parity in pro sports. No need to make it even worse.

Yes, there's a great reason to not try it and that reason is that it could hurt small market teams. With 1/3 of the teams in the league still losing money (at least until the new TV deal kicks in) it just doesn't make sense. While no system is perfect, this one is far better than what they were proposing. What the Sixers are doing is necessary. It takes a lot of balls as an owner/GM to execute this plan. The Sixers have yet to get the number one pick so their exploitation of the system could be a lot worse.

How about we just reverse the order?
Champion gets 1st overall pick
Loser of NBA finals gets 2nd overall pick
So on and so on..

I say keep a similar format, but make it so the bottom 3 teams cannot win the #1 pick (unless they were the bottom team 3 years in a row). That way, teams will be playing hard to not be the worst team, but it still helps teams in needs. If they are the worst team 3 years in a row, they likely are legitimately terrible and need assistance to get out of the hole they are in.

Yeah, and we haven't even seen if a team outright tanking for an extended period of time will work. There are a lot of reason as to why it might or might not be successful. The Sixers are taking a big revenue hit in terms of ticket sales and TV ratings because of it too.

Just give the worst record the #1 pick, you know like every other sporting league in the world does...

usa =/= world, in most sports in the rest of the world, the worst record gets demoted to the lower league

Philly won? There is literally no way the NBA will allow them to win the lottery now, like ever. Don
