I wouldn't say that, it has definitely become much worse.

Movies/actors have become much more overrated, actors acting like they're the best thing ever or something too, got much more (bad and unecessary) remakes popping up than ever before, Oscars became even a bigger joke, people seem to care more about bullshit (dresses, tking selfies, looks...) more than before...

And, also, for example, go look at the top-grossing movies from some 70's or 60's years, even 80's and I'd got as far as the 90's... And compare them to nowadays, big difference in terms of actual quality.
