exhibition or not, all games need to be played with some effort on competetivness. Otherwise, what's the point? Don't get me wrong, dunks are fun but what we saw was nothing but what we saw was basically pregame open dunks and shooting.

I wonder if it's now an unspoken rule for the players not to compete in it...Kinda like how by contract they're not allowed to go skiing, sky dive, play other sports etc...What if they're not allowed to truly compete in risk of getting injured in a game that doesn't mean anything? I'm sure if it were an unspoken rule it would of been in the public eye these days...But nevertheless, it's sad what this game has become.

Cavs posted the 1973 All Star Game, here's the 1972 NBA VS ABA game

I don't care what you think of the talent from back then, anyone with a quarter of a brain would be more entertained by either of those two games

The worst outcome that may have come out of last night's game was the fact that West came 4 points short of 200. That means they may gun for that number next year.....which means even more running and gunning.

It was terrible. The soft rules and all this buddy buddy stuff has led to this.

Next year I'm gonna watch reruns of past 90s all star games. Last night's game was fucking embarrassing.

The all-star game is a microcosm of the wider issue that nowadays everyone seems to practice either dunks or 3 pointers, the mid-range game asides from a few is lacking as is post-play compared to yesteryear. So we have what this all-star's game was, a snooze-inducing dunk and 3point jacking contest where neither side seems to give two shits whether they win or lose. They need to attach real stakes to the outcome of the game.

...dunks and 3 pointers weren't the issue, those would be fine if one simple ingredient was added.

A desire to beat the other team.

Then defense and effort would have been there. The worst part wasn't that there were dunks and 3 pointers, it was that they were effortless dunks and 3 pointers because no effort was put into stopping them. Hell, 99% of that game there was only 1 or 2 people crossing half court on defense at any given time and all they did was run down there to inbound the ball after the uncontested shots went in.

The excess money and guaranteed contracts have all but extinguished the hard core competitive desires of the modern NBA players (among multiple other reasons)

Would you give a sh!t about even winning a title or beating the crap out of your contemporaries with 80-100 million guaranteed contract!!! Hell NO!!!

That's why the NFL will continue to be the king of American sports, they have the perfect system for players to give their all on a day to day basis. Doesn't matter how many millions you signed for two years ago, we can cut your behind in a second if you're not making the grade. Organizations have ALL THE POWER in football where in the NBA the individual stars are starting to dictate the direction and general attitudes of entire franchises!

Bad times lie ahead for NBA!
