David Robinson played one game like Kobe did for 3\4 seasons and got to 71 points in one try.

The butt hurt is strong with Kobe fans. They'll bypass reading comprehension and race to defend their lord against an imagined enemy.

    Top 20 could mean 11th, or 2nd, or 20th, or even 1st.

Fans feel like Godbe is being insulted by calling him a top 20 player of all time.

Oh noes, someone called Godbe a top 20 player of all time.

And acting like these all time rankings are objective facts.

This is actually an excellent point, but his teams were BARELY hovering around .500 themselves.

Notable contender/playoff teams Kobe has scored 40+ or more on (with good efficiency) during the 2006 and 2007 seasons:

    2005-12-20 - 62 (18-31 FG) vs Dallas
    2006-04-07 - 51 (19-33 FG) vs Phoenix
    2006-01-06 - 48 (19-29 FG) vs Philly
    2006-04-02 - 43 (19-32 FG) vs Hpuston
    2006-03-06 - 43 (17-32 FG) vs San Antonio
    2005-11-20 - 43 (17-34 FG) vs Chicago
    2005-12-16 - 41 (14-24 FG) vs Washington
    2006-03-04 - 40 (13-26 FG) vs Detroit
    2006-11-30 - 52 (19-26 FG) vs Utah

There are more than a few solid defensive clubs on that list. Interestingly enough, Kobe only had ONE 40+pt game against a playoff team in 2007 (vindicating my previous claim(s) that 2006 has probably been his best scoring season up to date).

Some awesome stats to say the least.
His shooting prowls will get him into the HOF.

With age , he is showing signs of weary knee's which is typical of how many minutes he has played , but all great players change their game to comp for the loss of some of their athletic prowls..
I see Kobe changing his game , and becoming a team player.

Those were all regular season games. But if you want to talk about playoffs:

    2001
Game 4 vs Kings- 48/16/3/2/1 on 15/29 shooting(1/1 from downtown and 17/19 from the line)
Game 1 vs Spurs- 45/10/3/1/1 on 19/35 shooting(1/2 from downtown and 6/8 from the line)

    2004
Game 4 vs Spurs- 42/6/5/3/1 on 15/27 shooting(2/4 from downtown and 10/13 from the line)

    2006
Game 6 vs Suns- 50/8/5/3 on 20/35 shooting(5/8 from downtown and 5/6 from the line)

    2007
Game 3 vs Suns- 45/6/6/1/1 on 15/26 shooting(2/3 from downtown and 13/13 from the line)

    2008
Game 2 vs Nuggets- 49/10/4/1/1 on 18/27 shooting(5/9 from downtown and 8/9 from the line)

    2009
Game 2 vs Rockets- 40/6/3/1 on 16/27 shooting(2/3 from downtown and 6/7 from the line)
Game 1 vs Nuggets- 40/6/4/1 on 13/28 shooting(2/3 from downtown and 12/13 from the line)
Game 3 vs Nuggets- 41/6/5/2 on 12/24 shooting(2/5 from downtown and 15/17 from the line)
Game 1 vs Magic- 40/8/8/2/2 on 16/34 shooting(8/8 from the line)

    2010
Game 1 vs Suns- 40/5/5/1 on 13/23 shooting(3/6 from downtown and 11/12 from the line)

That's 11 in 208 games, which is about 1 in every 19 games. But if you start from 2001, that's 11 in 158 games. That's about 1 in every 14.

From 1991-1998, Jordan did it 19 times in 126 games, which is 1 in every 6.6 games. Obviously Jordan was better in that regard, but point is even for the very best, putting up 40 in a playoff game is hard. You're going up against top defenses. Even Michael Jordan at his best was doing it only about once every 6-7 games. I'm willing to bet during the regular season at his best, he did it once every 4-5 games tops.

I stand corrected. In '87, he did it 36 times, which is 1 in every 2.3 games. But it still shows that stuff doesn't happen in the playoffs, even for the very best.

Yeah back in 06 he was dropping 40 on a regular basis. When he scored 40 it was just the same shit in a different toilet.

Definitely one of the best players of all time. I laugh at people who don't think he is top 10 all-time.
