Re: YouTube terminates DawkinsMTA's account
im guessing NBA filed copyright strikes for using their footage? , they wanna make nba YT channel the only way to watch highlights etc. weak considering users provide unique and usually better material.
a better approach would have been split revenue over ad sense earnings on those vids? were they monetized in the first place?

This is most likely what happened. The same thing happened to this guy until he eventually figured out that nobody cares as long as the videos are old. That's why I hope CavsFTW's channel is never scrutinized.

it was actually CBS because of the college footage apparently
that's what you get from watching college basketball

Re: YouTube terminates DawkinsMTA's account
What a sh*tty thing to do. It's promotion of the league, and free promotion at that. He should torrent his files and have fans make spam accounts. Youtube can waste their time trying to take down all the accounts. Reminds me of the porn spam annon did on youtube. Remember "I'm 12 what is this?"

Re: YouTube terminates DawkinsMTA's account
What kind of highlights did he share? Do we specifically know which highlights drew the ire of the NBA? It seems he did current highlights, was that the problem? Was he just streaming too much critical content too soon?
I have a channel and I wish to abide by the rules enough to keep myself from getting shut down. I just don't really have a good grasp on which kind of uploads are big no-no's. I avoid uploading full games, I don't work with current year NBA, and I don't try to monetize my account, but I feel like it'll just be a matter of time regardless. I just like sharing clips for the sake of information. There's a lot of good NBA stuff that I've been able to bring to light that otherwise wouldn't be seen. It's a fun hobby.
Edit: Just saw the above regarding CBS being the likely culprit. That's good to know. For the most part, I tend to get copyright notices from the NBA that I can approve but still allows my videos to be playable, which again, is all I'm going for (information).
Though, if there's any hockey fans out there, there's a reason the Red Wings-Avs bloodbath in '97 exists only in awful quality. I tried to upload a good version and was immediately flagged (my only strike). Since then, I try to stay away from the really negative stuff (i.e. The Malice at the Palace).

yes, they were monetized. i once opened it on my friends pc and an ad played before the video.
i think NBA does split the adsense earnings these days. I am guessing that it was the NCAA highlights that got him into trouble.

From what I understand once you're on the radar for copyright infringement you stay on the radar... I think it's basically they let you do it until somebody complains then by necessity they really have to bury you or next time youtube's in trouble themselves

I think leagues can make claims on your videos that will monetize the videos for them but not for the user (while still allowing them to be fully playable). I get this on a lot of videos. My account is not monetized but the NBA will rightfully claim a number of my clips. I think that probably adds commercials to them.

yea, then its prolly NCAA that got him in trouble. anyways, the industries nowadays approach to this is not taking those vids/channels out since they ultimately promote your product. many industries have understood this and less strikes are being filed or only revenue redirection/split. I guess there are still old farts running some of them
