Default Ottawa attack discussion: Gunmen strike Canadian parliament

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/22/world/...html?hpt=hp_t1

It's still a bit chaotic right now, but reports have gone from a lone gunman to multiple shooters, perhaps some kind of organized attack.

There were two soldiers standing guard at the war memorial in Ottawa near Parliament, and a gunman shot one of them, a witness told CNN on Wednesday. Peter Henderson, a journalist, said other soldiers doing drills nearby ran to help the fallen soldier. Henderson said he knew the person shot was a soldier because of the ceremonial uniform the soldier was wearing.

There were "several shooting incidents in downtown Ottawa" on Wednesday morning, police said on Twitter. "Incidents occurred at National War Memorial, near the Rideau Centre and Parliament Hill." All Ottawa police buildings remain on lockdown and are closed to the public, police also said on Twitter.

There were "numerous gunmen" Wednesday morning at the Canada War Memorial shooting, said Marc Soucy of the Ottawa Police Service. Authorities are working to figure out if there were two or three gunmen, he said. Only one person was shot, Soucy said.

Wednesday morning's gunfire in the main Canadian Parliament building started in the foyer, and a second round of shooting happened about a minute later in a hallway or near the entrance to the Parliament's library, Ottawa journalist Josh Wingrove told CNN.
He said several officers had weapons drawn, and most of the dozens of shots that he heard appeared to have been fired by officers at the gunman.
When the shooting ended, a person was lying motionless on the ground near the library entrance, Wingrove said.

A "lone gunman is deceased" after shots were fired in Ottawa, Canada, a member of the nation's Parliament, Bob Zimmer, tweeted Wednesday.
However, after that tweet, there were reports that there may have been further shots fired at Canada's Parliament.
Earlier Wednesday police said that one person was shot at a war memorial near Parliament as media reports circulated that gunfire was also heard in Parliament.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper was evacuated from the building and is safe, his press secretary Carl Vallee tweeted.

"@PMHarper is safe and he has left parliament hill," Vallee tweeted in French.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported that a soldier who was standing guard at the memorial was shot. Gunfire also was heard inside the halls of Parliament, CNN partner CTV News reported.
The CBC is reporting that Parliament is on lockdown.
"We don't know if it's someone from the military who was targeted or not," Ottawa police Constable Marc Soucy told CNN, adding that the gunfire was reported at 9:52 a.m. ET.
Parliament member Kyle Seeback tweeted: "Horrific day on parliament hill. Shots fired inside centre block during our caucus meeting. I'm safe locked in a office awaiting security."
Another member Tony Clement tweeted, "I'm with colleagues Mark Strahl and Kyle Seeback. PM was in Caucus but now secure. Assuming it's not safe to venture out yet ..."

Clement tweeted that there were "at least 30 shots."
Parliament member James Lunney tweeted: #HOC in Lockdown, lone gunman shot security guard, shot his way down Hall of Honor....we are all safe. Gunman dead! Thnk God & our scrty!"
Police were searching unlocked rooms in Parliament, Canada's Globe and Mail journalist Josh Wingrove tweeted.
He told CNN that he heard dozens of shots.
Canada raised its terror threat level
United States President Barack Obama has been briefed on the ongoing situation in Ottawa, White House officials said Wednesday.
The violence at Parliament comes just days after Canada raised its terror alert Friday.
Earlier this week, a man who Canadian authorities said was "radicalized" was shot to death after hitting and killing a Canadian soldier.

There is no indication that the Monday incident and Wednesday's shooting are related.
In Monday's vehicle attack, police arrested Martin Rouleau Couture, who reportedly converted to Islam about a year ago, last July and confiscated his passport, but lacked enough evidence to keep him in custody, said Martine Fontaine of the RCMP.
"When he was arrested, he was about to go to Turkey," Fontaine said. "We stopped him as he was about to leave Canada for terrorist actions. He was questioned when he was arrested. We have not been able to determine any real threat at this time."

Default Gunmen in the Canadian parliment

Multiple gunmen opened fire at the Canadian Parliament complex, shooting at least one soldier and spraying as many as 30 shots inside the government building just two days after a terror attack in Quebec shook the nation, officials said.
    Damn, Canada on fire.

Maybe they (or their parents) are immigrants. Exactly like the (Islamist) guy who ran 2 soldiers with his car yesterday.
His name was Martin Couture Rouleau. Those French immigrants are nasty.

But, I understand where your frustration comes from (esp. in the UK). you can't say that to your immigrant physician, policeman, MP, teacher, bus driver, pharmacist and so on. So you come to a NBA message board to relief some pressure.
