Default MJ dropping 44 on the Jazz (1996-1997 season)

This one's for you, kenneth, since we know you'll still be talking about Kobe after he's retired like MJ fans still talk about MJ. Enjoy, muthafucka :

Shot profile of MJ's made field goals in this game:

2-point jumpshots: 13
Dunks: 2
Layups: 1

As you can see, MJ got 44 points on almost all jumpshots.. and they were 2-point jumpshots - all highly contested..

This was standard - MJ has tons of 40, 50, and 60 point games on all jumpers... For example, he dropped 64 on Shaq's Magic, where all but 5 shots were jumpshots... He dropped 54 on virtually ALL jumpers in a legendary Game 5 of 1993 ECF... This was against the Knicks vaunted defense - one of the best defenses of all time.

MJ and Bird are likely the greatest 2-point jumpshooters of all time.

44 points on all 2-pointers... .... That's true skill right there.

Of course, Jordan averaged 37 ppg in 1987 on all 2-pointers... He still shot 59% ts

Wow that is incredible. I remember Carmelo I think scoring 50 against the Heat in 2013 with 0 points in the paint, but that was a garbage game where none of the Heats' Big 3 played. MJ doing it in the playoffs is unbelievable

Curry shot 64% TS last year, next.

Without the 3-point line, Curry goes from taking 10+ high efficiency three-pointers per game at 44%, to taking 10+ low efficiency, long two's every game - Curry is just lucky the 3-point line turns him from low-efficiency gunner into a top player...

But long two's at 44% don't hurt a defense, so he'd be a much worse player without the line.

Otoh, MJ averaged 37 ppg on 59% ts on all two's... So unlike Curry, we know MJ would still be goat if the 3-point line was removed (like the 70's).. MJ doesn't need the 3-point line to be a top player.

They both played with the three point line, who cares. MJ shot 0-6 with a shorter distance, next.

MJ's the greatest player of all time, while Curry is something far less.

And btw, the point is that Curry wouldn't be a top player in eras that didn't have the 3-point line, while MJ would... Maravich > Curry in the 70's

Both players wouldn't amount to anything if Basketball was never invented. Agreed.

You've gone off the rails. Talking about how a player is lucky to use a rule that has been around for decades, including when MJ played.

If MJ played in the 50's before that dumb shot-clock invention he would have been a scrub.
Mikan would have dominated his bald ass.
