He knows exactly what he’s doing.

    .
Every team that made 3+ Finals since the ABA merger had a better 2nd option than 91-93' Pip for at least 2 Finals

    2nd options:

    Magic (84', 85', 88)

    Bird (81', 85', 86')

    Curry (17', 18', 19')

    Kareem (80', 82, 87')

    Kobe (01', 02')

    Duncan (07' and 14')

    Dr. J (82' and 83')

    Isiah (88' and 89')

    Kyrie (16' and 17')

^^^ Pippen is not in this tier

Plus many other teams that made 1 or 2 Finals had better 2nd options too:

    Penny (95')

    Robinson (99')

    Garnett 08'

    Dwight 09'

    Terry 11' (comedic addition)

    Wade 12'

    Westbrook 12'

Oh and Terry was a comedic addition for 2011, because it's obviously lebron that year

The list is very well researched.. I'm quite confident in it.

Among #2 options who WEREN'T alpha dog scorers, sure Pip is likely the greatest #2 option ever. Because u had some SICK #2 options who were ACTUALLY alpha dog level players. They WEREN'T a Robin. It was like Superman and Batman teaming up! When u CAN SAY guys like Dr. J, Wade, Kobe, Shaq, West, Curry, Russ, Kyrie, etc. were slotted as #2 options at some point, that says it ALL! These were really 1A-1B type deals frankly! Guys like a Pip were more like a true Robin. Nothing wrong with that at all!

BUT IF MJ-Pip was a 1A-1B type tandem, Pip WOULD HAVE went down as the arguably the GOAT SF at one point! Because even though Bird, Doc, and Baylor were superior players, Pip had MORE RINGS than those three COMBINED! But since he wasn't as good as those guys peak-prime wise and he was a Robin, he never was known as the GOAT SF!

It's debatable between Pip and John Havlicek.

I pulled all the data, so you tell me where does Scottie rank among the GOAT second options with regard to at least 3 appearances as #2 option?

    Scottie Pippen (1991, 1992, 1993)
    21/9/7 with 1.94 spg, .88 bpg on 46% FG (DRrtg 104)

    Magic Johnson (1984, 1985, 1988)
    19/7/13 with 2.05 spg, 0.35 bpg on 53% FG (DRtg 108)

    Kobe Bryant (2000, 2001, 2002)
    22/6/5 with 1.28 spg, 1.21 bpg on 42% FG (DRtg 108)

    Dwyane Wade (2012, 2013, 2014)
    19/4/4 with 1.64 spg, .88 bpg on 45% FG (DRtg 112)

Scottie's rank among the 4 candidates
    PPG: 2nd
    RPG: 1st
    APG: 2nd
    SPG: 2nd
    BPG: 2nd
    FG%: 2nd
    DRTg: 1st

These stats are telling...Pippen was an exceptional 2nd option.

You could also look at what each player did as first option without a HoF sidekick.

Pippen - 55 wins, then 45 win pace with Pippen before MJ returned.
    Kobe - 34 wins, 45 wins, 42 wins
    DWade - 43 wins, 47 wins
Magic - we never saw it, so can't say.

Pippen was apparently a better first option than Kobe and DWade also.

EDIT: 3ball - which was it... was Pip's 94 team stacked or was he a better player than Kobe and DWade? Keep in mind also, we're talking peak years for all three players here so it really is a fair comparison.

    3ball is snookered.

    He's in checkmate.

Either the Bulls were stacked or Pippen was as good as Kobe and DWade. There are no other options.

Kblaze, it's just REAL funny how this thread is still up man Like there's no way in the world that pippen is the greatest 2nd option. There's 00-02 Kobe, 16 Irving, 17-18 Curry, Jabbar in the 80s for the lakers, even 09-10 Pau is not that far off from scottie at all. This is a damn joke!!!!
