I think it was 9'4", so 12'4"-12'5".

No mention of McGee? Dude has like a 7'9 wingspan while being 7'. Add that to his freak athleticism and certainly he has a chance at getting higher than prime Shaq.

Wilt reached higher without even a running start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EpVZS26BUs

At the age of 36 also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotat...&v=GhXzPvmCfVI

This is the best article about 13 foot jumps. James White is the best one-leg jumper in basketball I have ever seen and his stuff is well documented. In general he was closed - about 2 inches short (and there is a video in youtube).

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/pos...a-jumping-myth

video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElTzC2M34cY - look at 0.47 mark !!!

To comments both Dwight's and White's attempts:
- Dwight jump of two feet and straight to the backboard- so he twisted his body a little and still touch 12 ft 6";
- James White - reported Olympic caliber high jumper in university, maybe lost 1 or 2 inches of his athletic prime (which is normal, given the fact that people athletic primes is usually between 20 and 24 - after 27, 28 you start lost a bit. But I am sure (as the author) that several years prior to that attempts he was capable of reaching 13 ft.

And another guy on bad quality:

It says the highest recorded vertical reach for an Nba player was shaq with 12'5'' (12 feet and 5 inches).

Then Dwight tries to break that record.

Also notable is that in this video Dwight calls himself the real Superman. I've never heard him say something like that...even jokingly like he does in this video. Maybe Shaq saw this video and this is why he was so mad.

Didn't Cavs fan post a newspaper article couple years ago stating that both Russell and Wilt were recorded touching 12-9" on the backboard?

Bill Russell said he used to grab quarters off the top of the backboard.
