yes the rockets were expected to be great while the bucks would've been satisfied with 50 wins and a 4 seed. Then the injuries for rockets hit and the bucks outperformed. People myself included really can undersell how much good coaching matters.

However a decent amount of that improvement was still due to Giannis himself. Improvement on both sides of the ball including being a legit dpoy candidate. Cant say he was undeserving at all
