Cowboys cut Michael Sam from practice squad

guess the guy just isn't very good at football...that or him being gay was too much

so really, an openly gay man still has yet to play in an actual NFL game...:/

Possibly because of all the NFL's real controversies and definitely because he hasn't played at all Sam has been a complete non-story. It's been shown that a team can bring him in without his presence being any kind of distraction. Now it's largely about Sam just finding a team that both needs him as well as isn't bigoted against gays.

The NFL wants Sam to succeed. with all the bad press the have gotten its on issues that offend liberals. Woman's rights groups, anti child abuse groups, etc.

A gay man succeeding in the NFL would have helped the NFL among liberals.

I would guess there are plenty of individual players who are homophobic, but the organizations as a whole, I would doubt.

I think half the reason jones brought in sam for a try is because he wanted the good PR. Society is rapidly changing on this issue. Its very different even from when obama first got elected. 35 states now allow gay marriage IIRC. and even the GOP is abandoning the issue.

Sam is going to fail in the NFL for one reason only, he isnt an NFL level player. Dude's speed and size is very substandard for an NFL DE.

it's only been a non-story because he has been on practice squads...we talkin bout practice...practice...NOT A GAME

anyway, I doubt he ever plays...he has been cut from two practice squads now...safe to say he just isn't very good

a late 7th round pick getting cut is a non-story...especially since it was reported that the league encouraged teams to sign him in the first place.
