I think he will and the Blazers won't be as bad as projected.

Top 2 point guards in the NBA right now?

    Westbrook & Curry, easily.

Curry & Westbrook. Third place would go to CP3.

What is the argument for Irving even being in the discussion?

I think Westbrook and Curry moved just a hair above Chris Paul, but only by a hair. Chris Paul had another all time great level point guard season, Westbrook and Curry just imo were a bit better. I think Lillard has established himself a clear 4th adn then you can argue Wall and Irving.

    VORP

    Stephen Curry 7.9
    Russell Westbrook 7.6
    Chris Paul 6.9
    Damian Lillard 5.2
    John Wall 3.9
    Kyrie Irving 3.7

    Winshare

    Chris Paul 16.1
    Stephen Curry 15.7
    Russell Westbrook 10.6
    Damian Lillard 10.6
    Kyrie Irving 10.4
    John Wall 7.8

Curry is #1 right now. He's the League MVP, won a title (and 67 games along the way), is arguably the best shooter ever to live, has handles than even Allen Iverson says are better than his, is a supreme passer, along with another myriad of reasons.
#2 I'd give to CP3. I give this to him over Westbrook because unlike Westbrook, CP3's game leads to W's (see 2011 Hornets vs 2015 Thunder). Don't get me wrong Westbrook is incredible, but CP3 is just better.

he's the best iso scorer at the position, he's efficient, and one of the best shooters while still being a decent passer.

and fwiw, according to win shares deandre jordan was the 5th best player in the league last year

Wrong. Curry, Westbrook, Chris Paul. Irving is tier 2.

    all wrong.

cp3 is at his own tier.

    then curry/WB.

we all saw what happened at final. CP3 killed spur.

If I were to write down a list of the skills needed to be the perfect nba point guard, I might just say "see Kyrie". That however doesn't make him in the discussion for top 2 based on results.

Oh and I posted 3 sets of stats to point out where Kyrie is among the top point guards, not just winshare. We can agree WS might over value Jordan just a little :)

..sigh, Chris Paul will never stop being underrated. He is pretty easily the best passing pg in the league and the best defensive star pg while being one of the best scorers...but all he gets from you clowns is derision. It's really sad how few people here actually know basketball.

People need to stop underrating Curry because of that Warrior fan BS.
realistically, he is, bar none, the best shooter of all time.
The warriors offense went from being at an ATG level with him on teh floor
(116 ORTG) to below average off the floor
    (102 ORTG)
(And yes, I know CP3 had a bigger on-off rating, but take into account that the clippers bench were the worst in the nba... while the warriors had a pretty solid bench overall)

obviously, portability puts Curry ahead after this. he is an underrated passer, and and underrated defender (not in the realm of CP3 though).
