Default After all he said/she said, MJ is still the ratings KING!!!!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Fi...vision_ratings

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation..._on_television

Its still amazes that nobody before or after Michael Jordan could hold the viewing public hostage the way he did during his prime.

Of the top 10 most viewed finals of all time Jordan was in 6 of them, while having the top 4 most viewed Finals of all time!!! Only Magic and Bird could hold a candle to him and that's why that era is widely known as the Golden Age of the NBA.

Neither Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, Wade, LeBald, Dumbrick, Durant, Curry or Leonard have the charisma or the mesmerizing games to appeal the masses quite like those players specially MJ had. Hell the NBA All-Star used to be on PRIME TIME network television during the 80's and 90's!

The NBA has ALWAYS been a niche sport that only knocked on the door of the NFL and MLB during the MJ years. Now its putrid popularity in comparison of those leagues is largely based on Social Media, the pathetic Hip Hop connection and Yao Ming opening the China market. The league now has NO PLAYER OR TEAM RIVALRIES largely related to the AAU buddy buddy circuit , decaying fundamentals and bball IQ thanks to the one and done generation and EVERY TEAM is playing the same uncreative spamming 3 pointers system! BOOOOORING!!!

The most damning black mark against the modern NBA is none other than knuckle head triple double "machine" and league MVP himself Russell Westbrick who's level of dumbness, inefficiency, severe uncontrolled decision making and just lack of basic general basketball IQ would've gotten his pathetic behind glued to the bench during the 80's and 90's yet in today's joke of an NBA he's a superstar first option can put up absurd numbers while leading his team to nearly 50 wins in the supposed "tougher" conference.

What players like MJ, Bird, Olajuwon, Magic, Earvin, Stockton, Barkley and Malone would've done to today's mental midgets would be DISHONEST!!! Hell their late 90's older versions would dominate on their brains alone.

The NBA sacrificed intelligence, grit, fundamentals, defense, toughness, IQ and developed athleticism to obtain more points via endless 3 pointers and open lanes to basket and it's going to backfire on then once their propped up primadonna in LeBald James is gone from the scene. They've built their entire empire of the last 15 years around this clown and it is about to collapse right in their face. Good riddance to this modern era of "rule enhanced" basketball!!!

The thing about MJ is that he was a phenom.

One of those guys who will be talked about in 1000 years.

He's Mozart, he is Homer (not Simpson), he is The Beattles, he is Albert Einstein.

MJ was more than basketball. He was a basketball player, but by mastering his craft to such an extreme level, he transcended sport and entered into genius level, where mastery is so apparent even laypeople can see the talent.

Westbrook really is the greatest example of how flawed this era is.

Yeah man, the bball i'm watching is not the highest form of bball. Just like the NFL i'm watching today isn't the highest form of football. It's a neutered version where the D is completely handicapped.

Just lucky some of us got to watch the GOAT in action I guess.

Nicely said. I don't know if anyone in the history of human kind was as good at ANYTHING than MJ was at bball. I still don't truly believe what I saw with my own eyes. He was just that dude.

Well, honestly I'd hope so. They didn't have a fraction of the other distractions/content we have competing for our attention as we have currently. I'm not even too familiar with how they calculate ratings either.....Did anyone by chance read the retarded ratings numbers for the last 5 minutes of game 7 in 2016? Was that the most watched nba moment ever?

The highest rated and most watched NBA Final game was Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals which averaged a 22.3 rating / 38 share and 35.89 million viewers on Sunday night.
Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals registered the network's highest rated and most watched NBA game with an average 15.8 rating / 29 share and 31.02 million viewers while peaking with a whopping 22.5 rating and 90.51 million viewers in the last 5 minutes of the game.[1] It was the first basketball game to draw more than 30 million average viewers in 18 years, and only the seventh sports telecast (excluding NFL and Olympics) to have done so since 1998.[2]

it was the peak because stern was short sighted. He sacrificed integrity for ratings with his superstar treatment to jordan. People left coz its a biased league. The only ones left are the jordan fans. NBA fans already quit. So once jordan retired, jordan fans are also gone. Its the same with what happened during lebrons superteams, ratings are great at the start but it sacrificed the future. Thats why were here now. NBA was mismanaged. Its like westbrook who only cares about stats/ratings. Its cheap and its not good in the long run.

    Not quite that simple Stot!

There were a LOOOOT more distractions during the 1996-98 period when compared to 1987-89 era and MJ's last three Finals appearances still TROUNCED Magic, Larry and Isiah's previous NBA ratings peaks. He was just that much of a must see attraction.

By the same token the NBA's regular season and Finals ratings fell off a CLIFF for the 1999 season and have NEVER recovered. The internet was not invented during the offseason between 1998 and 1999 LOL!!! They tried to market the snot out of Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, LeBald and Durant as the new saviors but NONE OF THEM have grabbed the audience like MJ did or Magic/Bird for that matter.

Hell LeBron has trouble matching the Shaq/Kobe Lakers while posting the HISTORICALLY LOW 6.2 rating he did in 2007!!! He is not in MJ's league nor ANYONE IS!!!

Michael Jordan posted the TWO MOST WATCHED Finals ratings of all time against a team from Utah, friggin Utah!!!

if there were no superstar treatment, jordan might not have won 6 and it wont have that high of a rating. And if nba was properly managed, ratings would be trending upwards since it was trending up when stern became the comish. The ratings of nba when stern started and retired are almost the same. That just means that theres no improvement during sterns 30 years as commish. So I believe that nba right now would have higher or the same ratings as during jordan if properly managed.

These boxscore watchers don't understand how the combination of artistry, charisma and competitive drive captivated the world. They see today's eye-popping TS% and PER and honestly can't discern what's so special.

Durant still studies MJ. LeBron's still chasing the ghost that retired 20 years ago. And Kobe became one of the greatest of all time mimicking the last third of MJ's Bulls career.

Just like you can still hear echoes of Michael Jackson's influence in Ne-Yo, Usher, Chris Brown and a thousand others, Michael Jordan's legacy still lives in the games of guys that likely never saw Jordan play in a Bulls uniform live.

Keep watching boxscores. They'll never be another Michael Jordan. It's just as silly as using Grammy Awards to compare the latest pop tart to Michael Jackson.

You've been posting 100 posts a day on 20+ alts since you were 15 and those black bullies put you in a locker.

Now you're mid 20s and still only getting paid cents to keep your rich uncle's basketball forum alive.

Bruh, I'd start thinking about making something off your life.
