    And, of course, Nate Thurmond.

For those who love the ABA or just basketball history in general, here is a great site (if you haven't seen it already): http://www.remembertheaba.com/

Here are some of the other forgotten names from back in the day in the ABA:

    Zelmo Beaty

    Louie Dampier

    Mel Daniels

    Connie Hawkins

    Spencer Haywood

    Maurice Lucas

    George McGinnis

    Marvin Barnes

Some of the best pics of older-time players can be found at Corbis. I'm not sure whether I can post some of them, I just let you know. If someone can add another source, do it.

[QUOTE=1987_Lakers]We all know the 80's, 90's, & 00's NBA get alot of attention in this board, how about giving some love to the 50's, 60's, & 70's NBA.

It's funny. Sometimes they say a picture is worth a thousand words. You look at the size, bodies and level of athletes in those pictures and compare that to today's players: and it's no contest.

This man is clearly superior to players of yesteryear

Today's players are far better athletes and have more NBA skills.

Maybe that's why there is more focus on the 80's-Today.

T-rex, why ruin the thread? Take the idiotic comments somewhere else.

I don't think my comments were idiotic. (They are actually true) However in retrospect my post is out of place. I do concede that point. I am sorry. Carry on the nostalgia!

Two of the greatest Centers in NBA history do battle in the early 1970's

Julius "Dr. J" Erving in the Prime of his career in the ABA. Dr. J was the face of basketball during the 1970s. And was one of the first NBA players to have marketing success on and off the basketball court.

On a franchise filled with legends, John Havlicek is the all time leader is points scored for the Boston Celtics.

In the prime of his career Wilt once played ever minute of every game for an entire season. He finished the year averaging more minutes per game than there are actual minutes in a regulation contest. To this day, it is one of the most astounding records in American Sports history.

Playing with a badly torn muscle in his leg, Willis Reed hobbles down the court in the NBA Finals. It is one of the most heartfelt and legendary moments in sports history. Reed and the Knicks would win two NBA titles in the early 1970's

Seeking the 1978 scoring title, on the last game of the season, David Thompson scored 73 points in an NBA game. However he lost the scoring title by a few % points when George Gervin scored 63 points later that night. Gervin sat out the 4th quarter of his game once he knew he had beaten Thompson by .07 ppg avg. for the season. It is one the best "can you top this" contests in NBA history.

    This is nice collection .

Louie Dampier was first Curry/Pete/Nash type offensive player . He was not that big force , but he was totally different and prototype of being shooting star , non-physicality playing .
