Do you have characters who listen to jazz, hip hop, funk and rock? If this is for a film, you need to be much more specific than that. New York is a collection of different tribes and different neighborhoods Punk and Hip Hop were exploding in New York at the same time, but very, very few people who knew about one of them knew about the other. I grew up on a street where various the teenagers were listening to Led Zepplin, The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, The Allman Brothers.....I remember one kid who was really into Supertramp. Later on the kids my age liked Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Judas Priest, Quiet Riot, etc. Kids who weren't into metal listened to the Police and The Cars. They were not listening to the same playlist in Harlem I can assure you. New York listens to the big bands that are on the radio like everywhere else.
When they wanted to make a bunch of movies set in Harlem, they musicians they chose were Bobby Womack, Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes who are from Cleveland, Chicago and Memphis.

Hip Hop would be a little bit different because so much Hip Hop started here. You could pretty much just pick an early hip hop hit.
A lot of the folks I know (professionals who grew up in the suburbs and moved to New York) don't even know this song. It was everywhere as a kid.

I would also say that disco was waaaay bigger than funk in NY. Donna Summer wasn't born here, but she started her career here. You could set a whole sequence to the 17 minute version of Love to Love You Baby. That would be cool.

Also you might be overthinking it with The Last Poets. If your character was very political and Afrocentric it might work, but even in Harlem in 1970's, they were niche.

Rucker Park streetballer from the 60s-80s into blues, jazz, soul, R&B, and funk.

I don't want any groups that aren't from the NYC area so pretty much every band you listed is out.
