Its the allstar game. Its a game for pure entertainment purposes to appease fans and say thank you. No one really cares who wins the game do they? As a fan i just want to see some cool shit, the players only start playing defense in the 4th quarter anyway.
If a player has the most amount of votes, it obviously means more people want to see him start and thus he should be the one starting. If you think its wrong, go vote for another player, and if he deserves to start he'll get the most votes. All of the starters currently would have been voted in by coaches anyway even if they don't get the fan votes. At the end of the day the squads are pretty much how they should be.

The voting process is a joke. Lin ahead of Westbrook. Westbrook is made for the All-Star game too.

Asik, Gay, and Ibaka ahead of Aldridge

    Yeah. This is sad.

Just a popularity contest and pretty much always has been. Hence, Ricky Rubio (who has played all of 0 minutes this season) getting more votes than Mayo (who's having his best season in awhile). Stand out players do get recognition though.

If anything the game itself is a joke imo it would be better just to name the All-Star team by experts and coaches and give all the players a rest during mid season so they come back fresh for a while.

Pierce is almost at 20ppg and the coaches have voted him in 10 of the last 11 seasons. The one year he missed it he was out for much of the season.

Of course, but if they stay only a game or 2 above .500 and KG and Rondo are already starting, they will not vote Pierce in.

Imo the NBA would be better off implementing a America vs the World game instead of the West v East and do it after the playoffs instead of during the mid season. Even thought it would be a mismatch imo it would make for better viewing. (Lin would not make the world squad)
