Welcome GMAT..and awesome points you make but considering you're talking what Kevin Johnson did on MJ...Im not sure what you're trying to argue here..I mean KJ did a good job on Jordan, played him very tough but for what??? Jordan averaged an NBA Finals record of 41.0 points per game with 8.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists.
As Glove noted, K.J. only guarded Jordan in half the games. As for what I'm trying to argue, I've made the point several times. By slowing Jordan's scoring rate just enough, K.J. allowed the Suns' team defense to hold up much better and Phoenix proved far more successful. K.J.'s defense nearly swung the championship to the Suns.
whatever, maybe he was "only" scoring around 37-39 ppg on kJ ? maybe his fg% went down from 53% to 49% ? who gives a shyt, Kj still got owned.
The point is that that difference allowed the Suns to turn the series around and nearly win the title. It didn't quite happen, but it very well could have, especially if Westphal had not gone back to Majerle for Game Four. Just slowing Jordan's scoring rate a bit made a big difference in that series.
you mean fg% ? don't give me Bs like points per minute please, only tell me about scoring average and fg%.
I meant points per field goal attempt, or the average differential between points and field goal attempts.
Plain field goal percentage doesn't indicate the number of field goal attempts, but, yes, you can also use it.
Jordan's field goal percentage versus Byron Scott and other Lakers in the '91 Finals: .617
Jordan's field goal percentage versus Clyde Drexler and the Blazers in the '92 Finals: .526
Jordan's field goal percentage in the three Dan Majerle games in the '93 Finals versus the Suns: .525
Jordan's field goal percentage in the three Kevin Johnson games in the '93 Finals versus the Suns: .490
Obviously, K.J. was able to contain Jordan better than any of the others. He certainly couldn't stop him, but he slowed him down just enough, to the point where the Suns had a real chance to win the series. Having a chance to win is what it's all about.
