"Scared straight" - any truth to this!?

I know two people who were gay, like, openly gay. One has a girlfriend now the other is now married to a woman and they had a kid!

...both came from deeply christian church-every-Sunday families. When they came out to their families their families did not 'accept' them as such, they actually took action and sent these guys to camps that 'corrected' them to be straight.



Does this not sound super fvcked up to anyone else? Do you think people who go to those camps are ACTUALLY scared straight or do you think they just go back into hiding that they are gay?

I'm pretty sure they are going back into hiding. Shame and fear of losing family can do that. I have known many people sent to such camps and it did not change their sexuality. And yes, it is f-ed up. The practice is slowly getting banned in the field of psychology, and is typically viewed as horribly unethical in states that it is not banned.

Insanely unethical ...when I heard they were sent away for a summer to 'correct' them I almost couldn't believe it... that's like some big-brother type dystopia society shit how the hell can that be allowed? Practices like that can't be banned quick enough.

The ball just got rolling. It should have been rolling sooner, but I think it will pick up steam real quick. I even read an article recently indicating that it could become a federal ban. I think they should qualify it as a child abuse.

Sexual attraction isnt really something that can be changed.


As for the state of euphoria, and its subject to manipulation. I find it possible that objectivity/logic/reasoning may all either be out the window.
