Default Winds of Change Blowing in FIBA Americas

That's right, in the FIBA division that wins gold almost every time out, there is a new team on the rise and they are lookin tough.

Andrew Wiggins scored 18 points as Canada's men's national team opened the 2015 Tuto Marchand Continental Cup in Puerto Rico with a 85-80 victory over Argentina.

Wiggins went 6 for 13 from the field with a pair of threes in his senior team debut while Anthony Bennett, of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves, added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors forward Luis Scola led Argentina with 23 points.

The Canadians pushed their advantage to as many as 15 points in the third quarter before Argentina started to heat up. The Argentines were able to rally and tie the game late in the fourth before Wiggins played the role of closer, hitting a baseline jump-shot with 26 seconds left. Dwight Powell, of the Dallas Mavericks, sealed the win with two free throws in the final seconds.

    bennett finding that comfort zone

    pan-am highlights v brazil

check the step backs, footwork around the hoop, using his size against smaller guys, good stuff. man how much of a shame is it that wiggins, bennett, thompson weren't allowed to grow up together in cleveland.

    stupid bran

edit: really strong spin then jumper at 4:10 then right after a block at one end and ally-oop down at the other
edit 2: that video is from a different tournament lol

Not the same game, those highlights were the Pan AM Games, yesterday's game was with a full TC squad (minus Thompson).

Bennett looking fit though, this summer will help him next season.

You do realize that's a 2nd tier team for Argentina and a 3rd tier team for Brazil right?

And the tournament you are talking about is a FRIENDLY tournament - you do realize that right?

Why are you bragging about Canada beating like a 3rd tier Brazil selection by 16 points?

Is that supposed to be impressive or something? They should have beat them by like 25-30 points.

They only beat that Argentine team by 5? REALLY? That's Argentina without like 7-8 of their best players.

If that is the best Canada can do, consider me very unimpressed.

How the hell are they better than Brazil?

And just beating Argentina by 5, when Argentina missed a whole bunch of their main players isn't exactly showing a whole lot. That's a quite pathetic result, considering Argentina had a better team at World Cup last summer and was getting pounded by any decent team.

If they were a really good team they should be crushing teams like the ones Argentina and Brazil are playing with right now.

I mean freaking Brazil has like 3rd level players out there at much of the roster.

No way in hell are they beating Brazil's best players right now in an elimination game with the level they are playing at.

And that's the argument being made here, "being 2nd best in the region", isn't about how you do when teams are sending lower level teams. It's how each team stacks up against each other.

Otherwise, you could claim Mexico was the best team of the western Hemisphere.

Canada has a ways to go before they are beating Brazil's top players in an important knockout game.

Thought you were meant to be knowledgeable in FIBA? Those are their top squads, this tournament is a warm up for the Olympic qualifiers which start in less than 5 days.

There is an internet you know, you should learn how to use it.

Canada just knocked off DR and PR the last two days to go for 4 wins in 4 nights, not an easy task by any means.

first time the squad has played together, 4 straight wins, great play from Ejim, Bennett and Wiggins.

14 starters, 22 Lettermen, loooookin TOUGH!
