Shaq is not behind. I think TD, Shaq, and Wilt could be placed over each other and I wouldn't have no complain. He's over Magic that's for sure. Better prime, longer career. I agree with Bird being behind. His peak was better too. Hakeem is way way behind. Him and Duncan shouldn't even be a debate.

Right now this is how i feel:
    1. Russell
    2. Jordan
    3. Kareem
    4. Shaq
    5. Wilt
    6. Duncan

I could place him as high as #4.

I agree with 4.. bu shaq and wilt have no case as winners or leaders.. shaq wouldnt play if he wasnt being fed and didnt have half the late career leadership duncan had.

Yeah they don't match Duncan in terms of leadership but at their peak and prime both were better than Duncan. So that equalizes the three IMO. Right now that's just how I feel.

true that.. you have your criteria and I have mine. Duncan may not have been as dominant at his peak but hes realll close and gives superior intangibles

Unless he flat-out dominates, his subjective ranking shouldn't change, maybe unless you were already really on the fence before the Finals started. Playing fine against the Miami frontline is no big feat, regardless of whether this happens in the first round or in the Finals.

My list has been like this since 2010.

    1. MJ (greatest player)
    2. Russell (greatest winner)
    3. Wilt (greatest individual force)
    4. Kareem (greatest longevity)
    5. Magic (greatest playmaker)
    6. Bird (greatest basketball mind)

    7. Kobe (greatest player part 2)
    8. Duncan (greatest winner part 2)
    9. Shaq (greatest individual force part 2)
10 Hakeem (greatest longevity part 2)
    11. Lebron (greatest playmaker part 2)
    12. Oscar (greatest basketball mind Part 2)

He could take Kareem's spot if he does something special in this series.

He already is in my book, but I suppose it would become less of a fringe opinion.

Both LeBron and Duncan can make a decisive play into the top 5 with this series. They won't surpass Jordan, Kareem, Russell, etc. but they can both make a strong case over Bird and Magic.

This is what I've been saying

Subjective, depending who you are. I've seen some say Duncan is Top 2 and some say Duncan is not Top 10 and arguably not Top 15 either.

    At a certain point...it just becomes opinion...in my opinion...haha.

I think Duncan was objectively surpassed the likes of Shaq, Kobe, and Hakeem in terms of the all time rankings at this point no matter what happens in this series.

This type of longevity, consistency, and team first play is extremely rare. We have officially entered Kareem and Malone territory here with Duncan after these last 2 years.

If Duncan continues to play well and the Spurs win...he enters the conversation for the 2nd to 5th ranked player ever for me.

I didn't see Russell or Wilt...and I missed early and mid 70's Kareem.

So those three guys will always remain very tough to rank for me.

From players I have seen. Jordan is the only guy I for sure take over Duncan. Magic is really close...I still would probably take Magic, but Duncan's longevity has been so great at this point...I just don't know what to do. Obviously so much has changed and players play longer now...but even grading on a curve...Duncan's longevity can't be ignored.

    Going into this year my GOAT list looked like this;

    1. MJ
    2. Russell
    3. Magic
    4. Duncan
    5. Kareem
    6. Wilt
    7. Bird
    8. Shaq
    9. Hakeem
    10. Kobe

    If Duncan were to win and play like he has....especially with a finals mvp...my list would probably go to this;

    1. MJ
    2. Russell
    3. Duncan
    4. Magic
    5. Kareem
    6. Wilt
    7. Bird
    8. Shaq
    9. Hakeem
    10. Kobe/Lebron

I'm still not ready to put Lebron over Kobe/Hakeem/Shaq if Lebron doesn't win this year. 2 titles in 4 years isn't enough given the 11 collapse and Lebron's history of weird shit happening in crucial moments (again last night with the cramps)...

I'm not some idiot claiming he should have played, but Lebron has this pattern of weird shit happening in huge moments...and if they lose this series because of moments like that...it has to factor in.

Last night was huge. That could have been the series. Heat win that game and they are huge favorites to win the series. Now? If they lose game 2...I think they are done.

    Can't wait until Sunday.

    Go Spurs Go!!!!
