    320lbs?????

    285lbs...

Give Bynum a tight uniform and shorts & see how he appears in the photo. He could never dream of keeping up with the centers back then. Even Bellamy who had weight problems would blow Bynum away up the floor. Can Bynum run like this?

Imagine the stiff trying to keep up with Russell. He would faint from exhaustion.

In Chamberlain's case, 320 lbs may have been considered out of shape back then due to the running game as opposed to the slower game today. It seems his playing weight was closer to 295-300. I don't think Shaq (in Chuck Taylors) would effectively play in that era at 330-340 without breaking down.

Even Bill Russell would report to camp at 240+ lbs, referring to himself as a "fat center".

    The Owosso Argus-Press - Sep 24, 1968

Coach Dolph Schayes also worked the Sixers hard in camp focusing on endurance & stamina.

Coach Hannum also ran a tough training camp.

Tall Tales: The Glory Years of the NBA - Terry Pluto

    New York Times - Jan 22, 2002

One of Hannum's former players, Pat Riley, the Miami Heat coach, recalled that when Hannum took over the N.B.A.'s San Diego Rockets in 1969, he gave his players a memorable introduction to his methods.

Riley said that in an early practice, Hannum directed him and the other players to run the San Diego Sports Arena steps, from courtside to balcony. He did not tell them when to stop, though. Hannum then went home. Three hours later, Riley said, the players were still running up and down the arena steps when Hannum called the trainer from home and told the players they could stop.

Haha, PHILA, how old are you?
How does it feel wasting your time on a player you never really saw other than google and youtube? Is it pleasing to google Wilt's name and find some articles you can spam us with?

You and Jlauber are the biggest Wilt-fans on ISH and you're both pathetic guys. Jlauber who changed his mind regarding Wilt and his era just a few years ago, 40 years after the actual games, regards himself as a Wilt-historian, haha.

And then you, google-boy-numero-uno, googling Wilt's name isn't the same thing as actually watch the guy play.

If you guys would have seen Jlauber's post from 1-2 years old he would never mention that Wilt had a decent outside game or that he had a great midrange jumper but google made him a true believer..

He is laughable because he never really saw many of Wilt's games yet acts all mighty with his so called expertise on Wilt which he got from google. I'd bet he doesn't even play basketball, what does he know apart from the stats?

Unless, I'm misssing your sarcasm, this really disqualifies you from talking about the early NBA.

Not only are you confusing the NBA with the NCAA which did ban dunking for a while in the late 60's/early 70's....., but the image shows a clear dunk in progress.

These 3 games show the invention of modern basketball

Check out the humongous difference in basketball quality between this.....

the second half of g7 the '64 Finals:

lots of doubleteaming on Chamberlain in this second part

    part 3
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzuWJblenO4

    part 4

    ************************************
And this, the only most-of-a-game clip I know of on the '67 EDF.......

    ************************************
And this, G5 of the '72 Lakers run
    part 1
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tQobnWfVoc

    part 2
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkBQAYwbguk

In a very real way, you can see the development of modern basketball in those 3 games, 8 years apart.

In the first game, there's very little fundamentals, almost no set plays, and a whole lot of running and muscle. In my view, that's mostly because the Warriors were so pathetically bad that they dragged the Celtics along into the gutter with them. Guy Rodgers & Tom Meschery playin their guts out but wow but Nate Thurmond lookin strong at times

In the second game, there's an astronomical improvement in basketball skills by all players, some real defensive strategies, and the triple post or triangle offense is on full display (rudimentary, primitive, primevel even) by the 76ers.

In the '72 game - it's modern basketball without a 3 point line.

I was pretty much wrong on a earlier post where i didn't know of any of Chamberlain's huge games, that 64 game he went 27pts 38 rebs (which tied the rebounding record in a finals game) and then that 72 game everybody knows the 24pts 29 rebs 8 assists and 9 blocks with 5 minutes left.

Lot of speculation about what Wilt did in that missing 3 or 4 minutes of the '72 game 5, but i have seen a clip that shows all the starters going to the bench on both teams with just over a minute left.

Buddy, I am not qualified to talk about anything before 1979.
It is all speculation and heresay, like a history project to me.
