Not airballing my layups anymore
Re: Official Olympics Rio 2016 thread
Opening cerimony was pretty decent so far. Short also, but they did spend 10 times less then the London Olympics.
Really liked the cerimony up until the giselle walk, then it kinda fizzled out with the generic dance act set to modern urban brazil music. I specially liked the bit with the natives and the portuguese discovery followed by the influence of the various communities in building brazil. Was pretty cool the changes in the background going from jungle to farmlands and then to the current urbanization.

It's your fault.
This has been pretty disappointing opening ceremony overall. Some good apsects though, the green rings followed by the fireworks was pretty cool.
Guy on our TV network said it resembled more of a closing ceremony.

Wow.
There is more fear mongering than a DNC.
They are showing maps of cities being flooded underwater.

Re: Official Olympics Rio 2016 thread
well, damn... score one for hitler. :S
The modern convention of moving the Olympic flame via a relay system from Greece to the Olympic venue began in 1936 in Germany. Carl Diem devised the idea of the torch relay for the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin that was organized by the Nazis under the guidance of Joseph Goebbels.
The Olympic flame was lit by a concave mirror in Olympia, Greece and transported over 3,187 kilometres by 3,331 runners in twelve days and eleven nights from Greece to Berlin.
Hitler saw the link with the ancient Games as the perfect way to illustrate his belief that classical Greece was an Aryan forerunner of the modern German Reich.
