Default Calderon Hopes To Stay

Quote:
Raptors point guard Jose Calderon hopes he's still with the team at the start of the 2010-11 season.

Calderon is aware that with Chris Bosh expected to leave via free agency, Toronto could be facing major roster changes.

"I've been there five years, I love that team and want to get back to the playoffs and win games, that's all that matters," Calderon told the Toronto Sun.

"I feel good about the team and the city and winning games. That's all I care about. I have a house in Toronto, friends there; if I leave it's going to be very hard."

Calderon feels as though he and Jarrett Jack and coexist in Toronto.

I like Calderon. He seems like a good guy and he's a solid player. But I'd rather not be paying a player of his caliber $9 million per year. It's just not smart business when there is a salary cap.

I think you can get away with Calderon as your starter if you have a really good defensive SG and interior defense.

The only way I could stand Jose staying on is if he plays as strictly the backup point guard, playing 10-12 minutes a game. He'd be the most expensive backup but we can't have him playing 20-25 minutes like he used to.

That would be possibly worse. No way to showcase him for possible trades and we are stuck with an expensive as shit backup.

I think that is a little bit harsh.

Jose IMO can still be an effective starting PG in the NBA.

A team where he is the sole facilitator, feeding spot up shooters and athletic big men is where he excels.

Well he hasn't show that he can consistently be effective in a couple of years now and he's just too much of a liability on defense in my opinion. I guess if we want to tank this season he can be our main guy then. I'd much rather have Jack play most of the time.
