Default Playoff Seeding

Does anyone else think its ridiculous that playoff seeds do not determine which team has home court advantage but instead the teams records do. Tell me the purpose of having seeds then. There must be better system than this.

Before, a division winner was guranteed a top 3 seed, and today it gurantees a top 4 seed, so for instance Houston had a better record than Utah last season (so theoretically Houston was a better team) and so got the home court advantage. Nothing too ridiculous about it, but I just think a divsion winner should simply be guranteed a playoff spot.

If you were the Chicago Bulls last year, would you be happy that the Heat got homecourt advantage just because your division is far superior to any other in the East? You won 5 more games than them, yet they still get homecourt.

They should do what hockey did in the 70s and early 80s. Forget about divisions, hell forget about conferences. 1-16 make the playoffs. I know in 1981, you had the Rangers and Kings in the first round. At least with records, it will be fair.

And because of which winning your division only guarantees you a TOP 5 seed essentially, which makes it worthless.
