How good of an overseas league could my boy play in

One of the only players of Indian/South Asian descent to make it onto a D1 program(and he's not freakishly huge like the Bhullar bros which makes it all the more impressive) only other indian playing d1 i can think of right now is Manroop Clair.

Grew up in Berkeley Cali did work at Berkeley high but no college interest so he played juco ball in the area for two seasons before catching some d1 coaches eyes and transferring to iupui.

Averaged 9.9 ppg last season(his junior year) in the scrappy Horizon league

Now obiously NBA/greece/spain/argentina are probably out of the picture but I know leagues in the tier below the 4 i just mentioned still pay very good money.

Any bruhs who know of the talent required to play in leagues like germany/portugal/turkey/brazil care to drop some knowledge?

Now that i think about i guess the team matters more than the league, like the best teams in germany are probably a lot better than the worst team in spain.

But i guess to rephrase the question, how good of an overseas prospect can Khuf be?

doesnt possess elite athleticism
average wingspan
average size
seems to favor going to his left

now that we got the bad out the way i guess its time for the good

very good shooting form
can shoot over and in traffic
very good at pulling up and knocking down the mid range jumper in transition
seems to be a perfect fit in a high pick and roll offense


he still has alot of room to develop but i could definitely see him maybe earning a spot in the d-league as a best case scenario and worst case would prolly be playing in australia

He needs to ride his ethnicity. I am thinking Malaysian League or the ASEAN league, or he could apply for a job with the NBA to help develop basketball in India.

Top leagues like the European ones or big money Asian ones are probably out of reach.

He needs an agent first (there are a lot of agencies who handle international leagues) and then he needs to take it from there.

One thing to note is that import players are expected to dunk, post up, shoot threes and handle the ball, basically do everything. Also, two or three bad games in a row and they will cut your ass.

Like J said, his best bet is to look to the Malaysian league, and possibly look at really crappy leagues like in New Zealand. I don't think he could make the Australian NBL

needs to get stronger. players may not be as athletic, but FIBA refs allow a lot of hand checking and physical play on the perimeter. Off the ball guys literally hold onto to you with two hands when you're coming around screens or just trying to get open.

for easy money, South-East Asia and the Middle East (Lebanon, Israel, UAE, Qatar).

German league and Turkish league will be tough to cut it as well as the leagues you listed. They are all about winning and don't pander to overseas acquisitions. They will bury him on the bench at the first sight of inconsistency.

Again, they are all about team basketball. I played for a year in Qatar, have friends who played all over the world, major D1 NCAA schools, who are amazing individual talents but it is really hard for individual talent to shine the way the game is played overseas. if you boy is a good defender and good three point shooter in the corners, he will get his initial chance.

Some countries have rules that allow players of specific descent join their teams without counting as an export. Like JtotheIzzo said, he needs to use this to his advantage. Find out what countries will allow him to do this, send the tapes to some clubs, and if they like what they see they will even help him find a job if they are interesting in signing him.

That's lower level than the leagues in Europe. Like I am talking lower level than the league in Belgium probably. It's lower level than the league in Brazil in it's own region.

I'm excellent at scouting talent and I honestly can't tell what his skills are that would translate to in different leagues.

He seems to be pretty quick, but not particularly comfortable handling the ball. His go to seems to be that mid range step back type shot. Which is somewhat exciting (that's good).

I would suggest looking into the KBL (Korean Basketball League). They get 25k a month salary and living in Seoul is amazing. Easily a top 10 city in the world to live in.

Tryouts are pretty soon - July 18th - 21st.

Someone from my university plays for a German team now and he played against higher competition than your friend. Had higher averages than your friend. He started on his club right away though. He was probably our second most talented player we had when I was still in college. We have someone whose projected as a future 2nd rounder in the 2016 draft. I won't say which school I went to, so don't ask.

Seoul is a shit city as far as Asia goes (despite its modernity), and its full of ignorant ass Koreans who hate foreigners, and what's worse, for as much as they hate whitey they DESPISE, brown Asians and think of themselves as vastly superior.

Also, the Korean league draws top div one talent, so a marginal player from a small mid-major is not on their radar.
