Default European guard Navarro draws interest from Cavs

European guard Navarro draws interest from Cavs

A European guard unexpectedly hit the market this week, and the Cavaliers are interested.

Juan Carlos Navarro, a Spanish guard whose rights belong to the Washington Wizards, negotiated an unexpected buyout with his European team, FC Barcelona, on Tuesday.

Faced with salary-cap issues that might make signing him a challenge, the Wizards are believed to be listening to offers.

Navarro's agent, Alex Saratsis, said the Cavs were one of the eight teams who have called to express interest.

At 6-foot-3, the 26-year-old Navarro is a combo guard who can play point guard but is more accomplished as a shooter. Along with being one of the best players in Europe the past several years, Navarro was the second-leading scorer on the Spanish national team that won the world championship last summer.

The Cavs are believed to like Navarro's shooting ability, especially from mid-range. There are some questions about his defensive skills.

``Juan Carlos is looking for a team that he can help get to the next level,'' Saratsis said. ``He is a seasoned player and an intelligent player and he could help a lot of teams.''

It is believed Navarro is looking for a three-year deal worth $12 million.

Kings hire Natt

Kenny Natt, a Cavs assistant for the past three seasons, is moving on.

Natt, whose contract with the Cavs had expired, accepted an assistant coaching position with the Sacramento Kings under new head coach Reggie Theus. Natt primarily worked with the Cavs' big men, among other duties.

The Cavs are expected to look for an experienced assistant to replace Natt, who was one of coach Mike Brown's top two assistants. According to team sources, the replacement isn't expected to be a specialist but rather a well-rounded candidate.

The Cavaliers really need a true PG Gibson is better playing off the bench and Eric Snow is an aging Dinosaur.

I would be jumping off my feet when this deal happen Juan Carlos Navarro is one of the best PG in the Spanish League. He also has some nice sweet shooting touch from the Outside that will help the Cavaliers during Crunch time.

Eric Snow the Dinosaur. Never heard that one before.

The Cavaliers need a playmaker more than a shooter.

navarro is not a PG... he's a SG. he may be able to play a few minutes each game at the point.. but he's absolutley not a point guard.

If the Cavs keep Pavlovic, then getting another guard would be pointless, because they will have him and Hughes around. With Hughes' contract, they pretty much are stuck with him. Also, sounds like he's more of a SG than PG, so he wouldn't help out in the area in which the Cavs need the most help.
