Meh, seems like a lot. Liriano has AJ Burnett syndrome, great stuff but horrible command and gives up a lot of HR's. Maybe the Bucs think they can fix him like they did with Burnett.
I'm pretty happy about this signing. Gotta feel good about getting a lefty with his stuff after seeing what the Pirates have been able to get out of their pitchers the last 2 years. I think he will be a very strong addition.
The Athletics signed Hiroyuki Nakajima. They cleared space on the roster to make room for him to be what I assume is the opening day starter.
As with all international signings where you get a veteran player it's a wait and see deal, but I doubt he's anything less than solid.
SS was a huge hole for the A's after Drew left for Boston. Nak is a cheap signing but he is probably an upgrade over the remaining FA SS. Overall the middle infield positions seem pretty weak so a short term affordable deal for an import might not be a terrible deal. The A's now seem pretty set going into 2013 but I would like to see them acquire one more Vet starter, imo lossing BMac is a huge loss.
