Re: WTF
I THINK that was a play between him and Bird, a pass off the glass intended for Bird to rebound as you can clearly see Bird screen out prepped for a rebound, or maybe just a lob pass for Bird that wasn't timed properly and Bird just went into rebound mode once he saw that he wasn't going to connect.
Either way I'm pretty sure it wasn't a shot, though of course any time that ball goes through the hoop it's points so I'm sure they were okay with it

I edited the post above, because I noticed Bird went into position to rebound, if you look he boxes out and preps for an off the glass board as if he knows it's coming exactly the same in both plays. Very clever play.

DJ
Being dead serious now... Through all my years of watching basketball (even older footage when I wasn't alive), I've never seen a player hit so many half/full-court buzzerbeaters, at the end of a any period, quite like Dennis Johnson.
He was never a great shooter (scored plenty in the post or while cutting, great without the ball), rather a nice one who could hit some from mid-range and shot very well at the FT line, he wouldn't take/make many 3's but I swear he must've made more 3's that way than anything else. He made 80 3pointers out of 464 for his career in the regular-season, and I'm willing to bet most of them came in that fashion.
He also shot better from 3 in the Playoffs.
I don't have the time now, but if you look through DJ's highlights, mostly those Celtics highlights on youtube, most you'll get are Bird's single-games footage...
You'll find plenty of those Dennis Johnson's half/full-court shots.
I'm talking about stuff like these:

Trust me, I've seen plenty more...
He's also one of the clutchest players I've ever seen. Dude even got "lazy" during the regular-season, when games didn't matter much, but most of the time he turned it up during the post-season, and in big moments. Ice cold veins, and big-time clutch performer most of the time (ofc not always) ever since his awful game7 in the 1978 Finals.
I'm willing to bet he wouldn't do this if the game wasn't on the line:
