Re: Let's get this straight about Lin he is American as apple pie.
when was the last time there was a good Asian guard in the NBA? Oh, wait there has never been. So yes, this would be an inspiration to foreign born Chinese players because they are from the same race.

Parents are great influence. More than city or school.
Also, Lin is Asian American.

They are. LeBron was born in Ohio, he is an American. Same with a slew of other NBA players that were born here and played for the US Olympic teams.
Just because you are African-American doesn't mean you aren't American, it's just a descriptive label. You could be more descriptive and call Mike Miller a European American, but it's just not as common because whites are not minorities in this country.

ok....literally the only thing Jeremy Lin has in common with a foreign born Chinese player is marginal physical similarities....that's it.
he has nearly nothing else in common with a foreign born Chinese player player other then 1. Basketball and 2. some minor Physical similarities.
Jeremy Lin has more in common with average middle class American "white or Black" kid then any foreign born player.
I gurantee you Lin found more "basketball" inspiration from people that looked nothing like him.
