I feel like the first half of his career when he was #8 no one ever called him Black Mamba, then a little later on in his career it became his primary nickname. Also, did Kobe give himself this nickname? I've never read a story of anybody coming up with the nickname and giving it to Kobe.

dude was stone cold in post game interviews throughout the 2009 playoffs
we saw flashes of mamba mode as early as 2000 game 4 of the finals.. but never did it show through more than 2009
