Lightbulb MVP award is ridiculous/should have standards by now

Instead of the media making it a popularity contest. It's 2015 and the nba still can't get serious and make this award mean something(see 2011 Derrick rose and to a lesser extent Steve Nash and A.i) .This award might as well be a wwf title belt, meaningless

    Is it for:
the flatout best player in the league?
the best player on the best team?
the player that's the hottest when it's time to vote?

tbh, mvp award has mostly gone to the right player.
it was way worse when players used to vote.

The award's criteria has always been consistent.(best player on a team with a top 3-4 record). 1997 and 2006 are really the only anomalies.
